What I Look For In A Zero Turn Mower

The Must-Haves for Every Zero-Turn

#1: Comfort

Not the most obvious choice, but you are going to spend HOURS on this thing. Make it enjoyable

See these padded arm rests?

#2: Frame construction

You want thick, tubular steel frames. Not some aluminum garbage. JUMP on the platform to see if it shakes.

#3: The right width

Too wide = won't fit on trailer or in garage. Too narrow = might as well be out there pushing.

48 to 52 inches is the sweet spot.

#4: Power and Engine Type

Kohler and Kawasaki engines in the 24-28 horse power range are ideal for anyone with 1+ acres of land.

#5: A Hydrostatic transmission.

This allows the gears to shift very smoothly. Don't buy a zero turn mower without one of these - seriously.
