WORX Hydroshot Portable Power Washer Review: 2024

worx hydroshot 40v

WORX Hydroshot is a portable power washer that can provide instant power using any water source. The Hydroshot is not your run of the mill power washer in any way. But the WORX hydroshot is a tool that once you use, you cannot imagine not using.

Looks pretty dang sleek!

Bottom Line: The first time I used it, I was skeptical. Now, I will be in the most random locations and suddenly think “Wow, the hydroshot would be really helpful here”. You can grab yours from Worx or on Amazon.

But anyways, let’s check out what makes this product so dang cool. Jump ahead using below links:

Worx Hydroshot 40V Powershare WG644: Features and benefits

Have you ever siphoned gas? If you haven’t, you likely will here soon with the insane gas prices (this was written in June of 2022 when I paid over $50 to fill up my wife’s Camry). The Hydroshot has a similar capability, except it can propel the liquid pretty dang fast. Let me explain.

If you’re looking for another option, check out our review of the Kobalt 600 PSI Power Cleaner.

The WORX Hydroshot has low PSI

Before you get your hopes up, this is not a pocket pressure washer from the year 2343 that will allow you to blast away the space debris from your rocket ship.

It is a portable power washer that allows for you to do light-duty stuff from basically wherever. It sits at about 450 PSI, which is well below the range of a conventional pressure washer. Most electric pressure washers that you can use on driveways and graffiti run somewhere around 2000-2500 PSI.

So, what do we make of the 450 PSI on the Worx Hydroshot 40V WG644?

450 can still be a heck of a lot when used the right way. I would NOT recommend this for pressure washing your driveway. I would recommend it for a ton of other things around the house, boat, car, or outdoor activity.

450 PSI is still going to be enough to thoroughly clean off an off-road bike with caked on mud. It is the perfect thing to blast off sand–covered kayaks and paddleboards. And those are all things where a normal pressure washer just wouldn’t have the portability.

The hose that it comes with has a floating ball that allows you to use this at the lake!

The Worx Hydroshot has a few different spray patterns

It would be a crime if I talked about the 450 PSI power on the Worx WG644 and didn’t talk about the nozzles that it comes with. It has a rotating head with four nozzles that range from 0 degrees to 40 degrees.

These nozzles have different spray patterns that cover different sized areas. The zero degree nozzle on the Worx Hydroshot is going to be pretty dang strong. Like it would hurt if you had it sprayed on your skin.

The 40 degree nozzle is going to be most like a “mist” with its wider spray pattern, but will still be able to deliver some power when used up close and personal.

Using the Hydroshot is super easy and can be done anywhere

Well this is where basically no other pressure washer on the planet can compare with the Worx Hydroshot pressure washer. It simply isn’t fair. This thing is meant to be taken anywhere and can frankly be used wherever there is a water source.

Water source doesn’t mean hose! You can also hook up a soda-bottle looking attachment that’s filled with water for ultimate portability – making it look almost like a water gun.

There is also a cool attachment that allows for you to draw water from any body of water – like a lake, pond, or swimming pool. You simply toss in the hose with the filter into the body of water, connect it to the HydroShot, and do your thing.

It has a nice little bobber like any old fishing line that allows it to float when you toss it in so that you’re not sucking up a bunch of sediment.

I got this image off of Amazon but it looks like she has it connected to a bucket of water…wow.

This is perfect for the paddleboard and kayak folks that are wanting to clean their equipment off without having to worry about getting the car dirty before heading home.

Wow.

Comfort and Feel: WORX Hydroshot sweet spot

The Worx Hydroshot has a huge benefit of weighing 7 lbs. Now for someone like me who bench presses 9 million pounds, I don’t even know I am holding it.

Just kidding, of course. I bench 10 million.

But for real, this thing is so lightweight and compact that it feels like a super soaker on steroids. It has a nice long lance as well that allows you to extend your reach pretty significantly if you have a larger item you’re trying to clean – no desperate reaching.

I love this personally for my car tires. I am taller than most and whenever I wash my car, I always have to get way down to scrub the detailed parts by hand. This wand allows me to stand there and knock it all out without worrying about missing any spots or doing any damage to parts of the wheel. Pretty sweet stuff.

My only complaint on this one is that it requires two 20V batteries, making it slightly heavier and bulkier once it is completely fitted out. It is also a bit of a hassle having to make sure both batteries are charged, but it does come with a dual port charger that lets you do them at the same time.

Still better than gas!

The Hydroshot is inexpensive

This thing comes in at about $200 last time I checked. Anything less than that is a steal. While I mentioned the downside of having two batteries, the full kit comes with both and a charger. Having the WORX 20V batteries on hand is fantastic if you own any other Worx products or are considering adding more tools to your garage or shed.

The benefit of getting two batteries as a part of this purchase.

Official Review: WORX Hydroshot 40V PowerShare WG644 Power Cleaner

If you’re in the market for a do-it-all pressure washer – keep looking. But if you’re an outdoor or backyard enthusiast who can also think of a million uses for this product like I can, then you’re going to have this as a permanent fixture at your side.

It has decent power, amazing portability, and is super convenient for anyone who gets things dirty. You can grab it with batteries and a charger on Amazon for a great price right now. That’s a steal.

Why we review lawn tools

The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! After hours and hours of research, trying products and returning them, and messing up our yards – we started this site.

We take the testing process seriously.

As people who had to learn the hard way, we want you to know exactly what you are signing up for before you purchase a piece of equipment. That’s why we are committed to providing honest, easy-to-understand reviews that mean something.

About WORX

Something that many of you may be scratching your head around is….what is Worx? It isn’t quite the household name that Dewalt, John Deere, or some of the other big name brands. Worx has quietly been creeping into the marketplace and has found a niche in electric lawn tools.

They even made this cool wheelbarrow we reviewed.

They offer low price, medium-to-high quality products that….work. Worx is super popular on places like Amazon, but also have a presence in some of the big box stores. Worx started off in lawn equipment and took off like a rocket, but are now transitioning into new products. One hallmark of Worx’ brand is that of innovation. And let me tell you – the Hydroshot is definitely an innovation.

We’ve reviewed a ton of WORX products, from their leaf mulcher to their popular string trimmer.

But if you’re looking at power cleaners – check out the Greenworks 24V Power Cleaner for comparison sake.

6 Greenworks Pressure Washers For Your Home Projects

Having a Greenworks pressure washer on hand will allow you to do jobs that would take hours of work and elbow grease to complete. With a pressure washer, you can finally wash hard-to-reach areas or tackle an entire wide surface like your front patio. I’ve used a few Greenworks pressure washers and love the

Pollen season in the Southeast is intense – namely cars, windows, surfaces, and outdoor patio equipment. You can do the rain dance all you want, but actually getting the stuff clean is going to require a pressure washer.

****************** SPOILER *******************

Best Greenworks electric pressure washers: Ranked

Let’s hop right into it – here are the best Greenworks pressure washers.

1. Greenworks 3000 PSI electric pressure washer

The Greenworks 3000 PSI pressure washer is the best electric pressure washer I’ve used. I bought this pressure washer online and used it on my driveway, patio pavers, and back deck. I was super impressed by the power this had and loved that it had big bulky wheels that made it easier to move around.

Pretty cool looking.

A brushless electric motor is also included in this model. This means it is more efficient than standard motors and increases torque. The motor is also backed by a 10-year warranty, as Greenworks believes the motor is so durable that it can withstand your demand.

An all-purpose pressure washer, the Greenworks PRO 3000: with just a single nozzle change, it can wash your car and clean your siding.

We have this one in our top list of electric pressure washers, too.

This is the most powerful pressure washer offered by Greenworks, making it our top choice. You get the benefits of a gas-powered pressure washer without the hassle.

What we love

  • High pressure.
  • A total of five hose nozzles.
  • It uses jet flow technology.
  • We love the brushless motor.

Cons

  • More expensive
  • More difficult to store.

You can grab this one for a decent price on Amazon.

2. Greenworks 2000 PSI 1.2 gallon GPM electric pressure washer

Lightweight and practical with 2000 PSI, this model has the power to take care of any household cleaning task. It is also an affordable addition to any spring cleaning kit.

Universal motors are designed to last for an extended period of time, protecting your investment in electric pressure washers. Furthermore, the whole device is waterproof (which makes sense). In addition, the Greenworks warranty covers your purchase for three years.

Barely looks like a tool.

Greenwork offers a variety of nozzles for this pressure washer. You can customize your pressure washer accordingly.

This one is also pretty powerful, although slightly lower PSI than the one above. It is smaller, making it slightly easier to store.

What we love

  • Decent pressure
  • Light and easy to store
  • 5 hose nozzles

Cons

  • Bad history with valves and leakage

This one is so lightweight and mobile that it should be illegal. But its not. Its dirt cheap on Amazon (less than $200 last time I checked).

3. Greenworks 1500 PSI 1.2 GPM electric pressure washer

Pressure washers like this one from green works are perfect for quick projects. One of its best features is its handheld design.

You can take this bad boy basically anywhere and hook it up to a hose. It is super light and mobile, but probably not going to be great for blasting away spray paint or anything.

It gets shipped to your house in an envelope.

It can be carried around like a stereo and won’t require any maintenance at all. If I lived in a townhome or condo and had some occasional outdoor cleaning to do, this would be the go-to pressure washer.

Pros

  • Compact and portable.
  • Nozzles with a quick connection.
  • Weightless.
  • Exceptionally low price.

Cons

● Lower pressure

● There are only two nozzles, with a 25 and 40 degree angle option.

This thing cracks me up. It’s like my first WalkMan – except it shoots out water at insanely high speeds. Technology, man.

It comes in at less than $100, which is mind boggling. I’ve seen some pretty insane sales on this too on Amazon , so give it a look before pulling the trigger (pun intended).

4. Greenworks 1700 PSI 1.2 GPM vertical pressure washer

With the GPW1703 1700 PSI  electric pressure washer from Greenworks, you can tackle smaller cleaning jobs with ease.  It makes cleaning easy and efficient by allowing you to pull it along like a suitcase at the airport.

Among the Greenworks pressure washers, this is the lightest. It is designed to fit easily into a vehicle and be transported when needed. With its lightweight design and two wheels, it can be moved independently.

I could totally see myself running through the airport with this thing.

I think it also likes to party.

This is great for when you are outside, get slightly out of reach, and can quickly pull the handle and keep working.

Pros

● Lightweight.

● Affordable.

● Moving is easy.

Cons

● Lower PSI (but not too bad).

● Only three nozzles are available.

This Greenworks pressure washer has mid-range power, but the mobility of a champion. I like the wheels because it keeps the thing easy to move around for minor adjustments.

It is also mid-range on price, but is always changing on Amazon.

5. Greenworks 2000 PSI 13 Amp 1.1 GPM pressure

The Greenworks 2000 PSI 13A 1.2GPM pressure washer (with hose reel) can clean everything. From your fence, housing outings, boat, garage, patio, house, and many others – you are getting this powerful and durable product from the company for a very reasonable rate, and you are getting it from Amazon for a very low price.

This one has pretty good pressure and comes in at a decent price. Nothing

You can travel a good distance from your power source with a 35 feet power cord and a 25-foot hose. In addition, it is vertically and horizontally stable while operating.

Low profile but also futuristic.

I like that this comes with a pretty long extension cord, saving you some money and garage space.

Pros

● Compact and easy to store.

● 1-year warranty.

Cons

● Pressure went down after a few months of use (but you have the warranty!)

This one is nice! It is definitely basic, but still backs a good punch. Not much to say here other than it is the most standard version of their pressure washer. Probably like a Honda Civic of pressure washers.

But that’s a popular car, and this is a popular pressure washer. Check the reviews and price on Amazon if you don’t believe me.

6. Greenworks 2000 PSI corded electric pressure washer

The Greenworks 2000 PSI GPW2001 is small, sweet, and compact. The frame is designed to make it portable – plus it comes with a nice hose reel. The hose reel is definitely convenient, but can also be frustrating.

Generally, when I try to pull the hose out of the hose reel, it will tip the machine over until I get enough slack out.

My advice is to unwind the hose reel a little bit until you get about 10 feet out, then you can start pulling without knocking the machine over.

Boats n’ hose.

Included in the purchase are 35 feet of power cord and 20 feet of HP hose. A soap sprayer and four nozzles will also be included.

The machine is durable, performs well, and is comfortable to use. It connects to nozzles easily and its spray fun is very convenient. It is affordable and offers great performance.

Pros

  • Long hose and power cable.
  • Lightweight.
  • Moving is easy.
  • No extra bucket is needed for detergent.
  • 1-year warranty.

Cons

Hose reel can cause it to topple over

This one looks cool but is slightly less cool to use, simply because the hose reel at the TOP of the pressure washer can cause it to topple over.

If you treat it right, it will treat you right. This is another good one from Greenworks and can be yours if you grab it on Amazon.

Final thoughts

You really can’t go wrong with a Greenworks pressure washer. Make sure you are matching the size of the job you are completing with the PSI in a pressure washer you will need.

Frankly, none of these pressure washers are going to be commercial-grade. They will do incredibly well with cleaning off a fence, patio, car, RV, windows, or really any surface. If you’re looking to blast away a few years of dirt off your driveway – I’d go with a gas one.

I like Greenworks because of their warranty and because they typically have super high quality products.

Greenworks products

Greenworks makes some of the best battery-powered and electric lawn tools on the planet. A few reasons why I am extremely bullish on this brand taking over the market:

  1. Quality
    • Greenworks has some of the highest quality battery-powered tools on the market. I attribute this mostly to their focus. Whereas some other brands (cough cough *Ryobi*) make a million products, Greenworks is focused on high quality tools. Although they have a smaller selection, the engineering and lasting life on each of these are worth it.
  2. Power
    • Greenworks products are generally high power. They also have some really nice lawn mowers that can easily replace any gas-powered push mower as well.
  3. Looks
    • Greenworks products have the best looks of all battery-powered tools, hands-down. Most of their products are all-black, with a darker neon green accent. Much less gimmicky and plastic.

What to look for in a pressure washer

You gotta know what to look for on these bad boys! Each one looks basically the same, but has subtle differences that completely change its capabilities.

Nozzles

When choosing a pressure washer, you should pay attention to the nozzles included in the package. Two types of spray nozzles are available, adjustable spray nozzles that can be controlled and quick-connect nozzles with predefined spray patterns.

The predefined spray patterns typically come in different angles, allowing for you to quickly switch between a broad, lower pressure spray or a narrow, higher pressure stream.

Soap tank

Additionally, you may want to consider a cleaning system-equipped pressure washer. These units feature a tank for storing cleaning solutions. A bucket or a standalone sprayer will need to be used instead of this tank to apply the cleaning solution.

I recommend a soap tank for cars and windows.

Wheels

Despite these seemingly minor features, they can have a big impact, especially with larger units. No sense in lugging around one of these in your yard and tripping all over the place.

Hose

There’s a big difference between how easy or difficult it is to use a pressure washer based on the kind of hose that comes with it. Stiff, rigid hoses make it extremely difficult to have any maneuverability without messing up the job or knocking over the base.

The metal in here means something!

Portability

Even if this has the drawback of making the unit less powerful, a portable, smaller pressure washer will be a better choice if you have to move around or carry the unit with you. I own a pressure washer that is mounted to the wall, which is nice but NOT portable.

Totally depends on the job you are trying to do. Check out our comparison of Greenworks 3000 PSI to Ryobi’s 3000 PSI.

Pressure washers: Gas vs. Electric

Both gas and electric pressure washers are available, although electric ones like Greenworks are often preferred for homeowners.

A favorite Greenworks 3000 PSI pressure washer.

The maintenance and cost of gas pressure washers are greater, including things like air filter changes, spark plugs, and more. However, electric washers simply have a power source and a button.

I like buttons.

Why Greenworks pressure washers?

Pressure washers from Greenworks are recommended for several reasons. Greenworks just puts out solid stuff in all of their tools. We are confident that when we need it to work it is going to work with minimum care, compared to gas-powered models.

No pull-cord, no gas, no insanely loud noises. Greenworks is the low-maintenance pressure washer king.

Sun Joe SPX3000 vs SPX3001 Pressure Washer: Buying Guide

Sun Joe’s SPX3000 and SPX3001 are two pressure washers that have absolutely blown up in sales. I recommend the SPX3000 over the SPX3001 because it won’t topple over as easily.

And you are in the market for a new pressure washer. The Sun Joe SPX3000 seems to be the most popular pressure washer of all time, but right before you check out…..what’s this?

The SPX3001? Is it better? Do I need it? Let’s settle this once and for all.

Jump ahead:

The Sun Joe SPX3000 vs 3001: Breakdown

I am going to repost a bit from our full review of the Sun Joe SPX3000, because, well, all of the specifications are the same on the SPX3000 as they are on the SPX3001. Meaning they will be an absolute TIE in every category (except for one major difference, and not just the additional “1” in the name).

Usability and attachments

The Sun Joe SPX3000 comes with five different attachment tips. A zero degree, fifteen degree, twenty five degree, forty degree and soap tip. The larger the degree of tip you have on the front of this pressure washer, the weaker the spray and the larger the area of coverage.

The classic SPX3000

If you are pressure washing an outdoor metal fence, you can use the zero degree tip to blast away anything that is not metal. If you want to clean off your car, try the forty degree or soap tip as to not hurt the paint or any of the trim features.

This Sun Joe SPX3000 and SPX3001 also have a twenty foot hose, allowing you to extend your work over a modest sized difference.

The SPX3000 and SPX3001 + soap

This pressure washer has two different detergent tanks that you can use to infuse the water in the pressure washer with soap. This means you can easily switch from your car (normal soap) to your deck (a bleach mixture).

Noise and the auto-stop feature

If your neighbor has ever used a pressure washer, well you would know because it is overly loud and obnoxious. I was walking with my wife in our neighborhood and could hear a neighbor about seven houses down using his pressure washer. As we approached his house, he stopped using the pressure washer and tried talking to us.

Let go of the trigger and the whole thing stops.

We were basically screaming at each other in the middle of the street until my wife faked a massive diarrhea attack and we took off to avoid the conversation (this is a lie).

The beauty of the Sun Joe is that it is a relatively quiet piece of equipment. For whatever reason, gas pressure washers are loud when they are in use and somehow loud when not in use.

The SPX3000 and SPX3001 have a feature that turns off the whole machine, then turns it back on when you squeeze the trigger. This feature is super similar to a car that turns off at red lights and kicks back on when you press the gas. While not a huge selling point, it makes a difference with your ears and with your neighbors.

Storage and maintenance

This product only weighs about 28 lbs, meaning it will fit into just about any portion of your garage, shed, or even inside your house. Being an electric device means that very little maintenance is required. You simply plug it in and it will do its thing, unlike gas powered pressure washers that rely on…gas.

Wheel this thing away!

The Sun Joe SPX3000 and SPX3001 are both super light, making them easy to store and maintain.

These pressure washers also come with a full two year warranty. While this is great, keep in mind that folks usually only use their pressure washer a couple of times per year. Make sure to get as much use out of it as possible for the two years are up in case anything is going to go wrong.

Sun Joe SPX3000 vs SPX3001: Final ruling

So…what is up with the 1? Should I make the upgrade?

It depends. The real difference between the SPX3000 and the SPX3001 is the hose reel attachment that comes with the SPX3001. Basically, the 3001 has this little hose reel attachment at the top that allows you to reel in the hose and pull it from that spot.

The SPX3000 looks very clean.

Hose reel attachments are great…..if they work. Sadly, the 3001 has the hose reel at the top of the piece of light equipment, so most pulls on it are going to topple it over. Frankly, this is pretty useless when pressure washing, but is nice for storage.

My final verdict: save a few bucks and go with the SPX3000 unless storage is a really big deal to you.

Knock it off your weekend checklist and grab it on Amazon. I’ve included the blue one below (which is just over $100).

Check out the best deal we found on Amazon.

Honestly though, there’s one that’s even better – the Sun Joe SPX3500 is by far the best version of their electric pressure washers.

Why we review electric pressure washer

The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! After hours and hours of research, trying products and returning them, and messing up our yards – we started this site.

How we test out some tools.

As people who had to learn the hard way, we want you to know exactly what you are signing up for before you purchase a piece of equipment. That’s why we are committed to providing honest, easy-to-understand reviews that mean something.

Things to consider before buying a pressure washer

Some common considerations for those looking for a pressure washer include the following:

  • Ability to add soap to the hose instead of schlepping around a bucket with soap
  • Multiple nozzle types for whichever job you need
  • Length of pole (if cleaning exterior of house, not having one of these could limit how high you can reach)
  • Storage capability and maintenance requirements
  • PSI level for either commercial or residential use

What to look for in a pressure washer

When looking for a pressure washer, you want to have a good understanding of the jobs you want to get done. Most people use pressure washers to deep clean their patio, porch, driveways, windows, or other external surfaces around the house. Most pressure washers are good for these jobs as they are relatively light work and do not require excessive force.

Soap canisters are a nice plus!

For those of us cleaning the spray paint off of our cars from our crazy ex-girlfriends, you might want one that has a little more “umph” behind it. Something with 3000 PSI with a wide nozzle that is gas powered like this Dewalt one.

About Mr. Joe and his sun equipment

Sun Joe produces electric lawn and home care equipment. They are popular for their super convenient and inexpensive dethatcher (you wouldn’t believe how satisfying it is), and of course their pressure washer. You likely found out about the pressure washer because it has more reviews than I thought humanly possible on Amazon. As of today, it has almost 45,000 reviews and 73% of them are five stars.

People love the SPX3000 but I can tell you right now, it is not for everyone. While one of the least expensive items on the pressure washer market, it certainly has a target demographic. I’ll break down who the target audience is and why this is so popular.

We did a video review of the SPX3000 – check it out!

Statistics about push mowers

When it comes to push mowers, there are really three main types of power sources:

  1. Battery-powered push mowers: These mowers are powered by a battery and can be easily re-charged and stored. Battery-powered mowers are typically less expensive, easier to store and maintain, and better suited for small yards.
  2. Gas-powered push mowers: These mowers are gasoline-powered and rely on refills, just like a car. Gas-powered push mowers tend to last much longer than electric mowers, but require yearly maintenance.
  3. Corded electric push mowers: Corded push mowers tend to be very similar to battery-powered mowers, except require a long extension cord for power. Be careful not to run it over with the blade!

The average cost of push mowers in 2022

Push mowers range in cost depending on how they are powered, the size of their engine, and the width of their cutting deck. Push mowers are one of the most popular types of mowers because most folks have relatively small yards.

As the rise of townhomes have grown, the small little yards associated with them can be easily taken care of with a small electric mower. Sun Joe offers a ton of these, but also has competition with Greenworks, Ryobi, and a handful of others.

Battery powered mower cost 2022

The average cost of a battery-powered push mower in 2022 is about $300, but can range from $75 – $550 depending on size and features.

Some of the battery powered push mowers we have reviewed are:

Average cost of an electric mower in 2022

The average cost of a corded electric push mower in 2022 is about $150, but can range from $70 to $200.

The average cost of a riding mower in 2022 (Lawn Tractor + Zero-Turn)

Riding mowers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The two you will recognize the most are lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers.

Lawn tractors vs. zero-turn mowers

Lawn tractors tend to have a steering wheel where the engine sits between your legs. Zero-turn mowers have levers that help steer the mower.

Lawn tractors are best for yards that are between ½ of an acre and 1.5 acres. Zero-turn mowers are great for those with 1.5 acres and above.

Lawn tractor costs in 2022

The average cost of a lawn tractor in 2022 is about $2,300, but can range between $2,000 and $4,200.

Most lawn tractors sit right around the $2,000 to $3,000 range, but some newer electric lawn tractors can cost over $4,000.

Lawn tractors vary in price depending on their engine horsepower and their cutting width. As you would expect, larger engines and larger cutting decks increase the price of the lawn tractor.

Some of the lawn tractors that we have reviewed are:

The Cub Cadet XT2 is so hot right now.

Zero-turn mower costs in 2022

The average cost of a zero-turn mower in 2022 is about $4,500, but can range from $2,900 to $5,300. Zero-turn mowers range in price depending on the features and the size of the mower.

Commercial zero-turn mowers can run as high as $10,000 in 2022.

Some popular zero-turn mowers that we have reviewed include

The Ariens IKON XD52 is an absolute unit.

The average cost of a lawn service in 2022

The average cost of a lawn mowing service in 2022 is about $60 for lots < 10,000 sq. ft.

The average cost of a lawn mowing service for yards between 10,000 sq. ft and ½ acre is about $100 in 2022.

The average cost of a lawn mowing service for an acre is $150-200 in 2022.

As a reminder, lawn service usually comes every week or every other week during peak season. These costs can add up extremely quickly, making do-it-yourself lawn mowing easily the most affordable option.

Leaf blowers: A 2022 guide to cost and choice

Leaf blowers come in many shapes and sizes, ranging from some that seem to have the power of a hair blower to others that can send a sailboat across the Atlantic. When it comes to leaf blowers, there are three main types: handheld electric, handheld gasoline, and backpack blowers.

Handheld electric blowers are slightly more expensive than gas blowers and are often the least powerful. There are a few exceptions, but these hold true.

Who should buy an electric blower?

Electric blowers are great for those looking for quick, small jobs around the yard. This would include blowing out the garage, blowing off the driveway or back deck, or collecting leaves for a smaller yard.

Electric blowers have a huge upside in that they are very easy to start and maintain, only requiring a charged battery to begin the work

Average cost of an electric leaf blower in 2022

The average cost of an electric leaf blower in 2022 is $175, but can range from $70 to $350 depending on the quality.

Some of our favorite electric leaf blowers include:

The Ryobi Brushless Whisper blower is a beast.

Who should buy a gas leaf blower?

Handheld gasoline blowers provide a step up in power, but often require air filter changes and other minorly inconvenient maintenance. Gas blowers are great for people who have up to an acre or so of land and feel comfortable walking around and using the blower.

Likewise, gas blowers are great for folks who receive a significant amount of leaves, regardless of lawn size. Gas blowers can help move leaves off of your yard much more quickly and will leave less wet leaves stuck behind.

Average cost of a gas leaf blower in 2022

Gas blowers cost about $150, but range from $100 – $250 depending on size and power.

One of our favorite handheld gas blowers that we have reviewed is the Husqvarna 125B. This blower has an attachment on the end that can provide a super concentrated stream of air, with the ability to blow anything away.

We also love the Stihl BG 86 C – check out our video review on YouTube!

Who should buy a backpack blower?

Backpack blowers are the most powerful, expensive, and loudest blowers on the market. These are made popular by commercial landscapers, but anyone with an acre or above could majorly benefit from these.

Backpack blowers provide very high amounts of power and come with the added comfort of straps, advanced features, and an easy to use handle.

Average cost of a backpack blower in 2022

Backpack blowers will run you about $350 in 2022, but can range from $250 to $750 depending on the size and power.

Some of our favorite backpack blower reviews include:

The Stihl BR600 is a beast and you look like a teenage mutant ninja turtle when you wear it.

Trimmers or Weed Eaters costs in 2022

Trimmers, lovingly known as weed eaters, are tools used to cut grass precisely. These are often used in harder to reach areas, to clear brush, or to fine tune the edges of a property.

Trimmers come in both gas and electric powered forms, with electric becoming more popular. Electric trimmers are very easy to use, but can be less powerful. A plus side to electric trimmers is that they often come with multiple interchangeable heads, allowing for edger, blower, and hedge trimmer attachments to all fit the same body.

Gas trimmers provide relentless, reliable power and are often used by those with bigger yards and of course, commercial landscapers.

Pressure washer costs in 2022

Pressure washers come in two major forms: gas and electric. Electric pressure washers tend to have less power and lower reliability. Gas pressure washers are more powerful and can get extremely pricey.

Who should buy an electric pressure washer?

Electric pressure washers are great for people who are doing lighter jobs. The perfect person to buy an electric pressure washer is someone looking to clean their windows, their car or boat, or garage door.

Electric pressure washers are less expensive and relatively easy to use. If you are looking to blast away all of the grime from your long driveway, electric pressure washers will not be the best choice for you.

Average cost of an electric pressure washer in 2022

The average cost of an electric pressure washer is about $190, but ranges from $60 to $300 depending on power and size.

Some of our favorite electric pressure washers include:

The Sun Joe SPX3000 is one of the hottest pressure washers on Amazon.

Who should buy a gas pressure washer?

Gas pressure washers are great for all of the same reasons as an electric pressure washer, but can also remove paint, blast dirt and grime off of old surfaces, and more.

Gas pressure washers have serious power, but are also pretty loud. They will be more reliable, but also require a little bit of maintenance.

Average cost of a gas pressure washer in 2022

The average cost of a gas pressure washer in 2022 is about $400, but can range from $250 to $1,000 depending on power.

Some of our favorite gas pressure washers include:

The Dewalt 3400 PSI pressure washer provides intense power.

Dethatcher costs in 2022

Dethatchers are lawn tools that pull up thatch, or dead grass, from the bottom of your yard. Thatch forms over time and can suffocate your soil, leaving poor conditions for your healthy grass to grow.

Many people dethatch their lawns before they aerate and seed in the fall. Dethatchers have grown in popularity. They are often electric, corded devices that replace the traditional dethatching rakes.

Dethatchers typically come corded, meaning you need a long extension cord to operate them in your yard. They are not a danger to your cord like a normal mower, but actually have small metal tines. The tines stick out (kind of like the metal springs in a chip bag clip), and kick up the thatch from the soil.

Average cost of a dethatcher in 2022

The average dethatcher will cost about $150, but ranges from $130 to $200 depending on the width of the machine.

This Dewalt 3400 PSI Pressure Washer Packs Serious Power

The Dewalt 3400 PSI pressure washer packs quite the punch. For those of us completing residential jobs (driveways, windows, cars, etc.), the Dewalt 3400 PSI packs just the right amount of power.

Let’s check out all of the features of the pressure washer, then see if there are any negatives to watch out for.

Bottom line: The Dewalt 3400 PSI is a super strong pressure washer that can be used at home or for commercial applications. It goes on sale occasionally at Home Depot.

Jump ahead:

The Dewalt 3400 PSI pressure washer: Features

Before you blow a fat stack on a pressure washer, you want to make sure that it can stand up to the job. There are a few things that need to undergo intense scrutiny, and I will review them below.

3400 PSI is a lot of power for a pressure washer

When it comes to buying a pressure washer, you need power. That’s where the term “pressure” comes from in “pressure washer” (did I just blow your mind?). You see pressure comes from the latin “presto”, which translates roughly to “Pretzel”. I sounded smart for a second there.

There’s a reason you aren’t buying a garden hose and sticking your thumb on it. You need power. And if you want to do anything above washing the tires on your car and the windows on your house, you need 3000 PSI or above. The Dewalt 3400 PSI obviously comes in above the 3000 mark, so you should be good for most jobs here.

Compare the 3400 PSI to 3000 on this electric one.

Now, if you are really wanting to remove some graffiti of vulgar things about your mom on the side of the arcade, you will probably want to get a pressure washer, put it in a box, put it in a truck, and move out of town because you have bigger problems.

But if you want to stick around, make sure to get a heavy duty pressure washer with at least 4000 PSI, or a really tight nozzle plus some free time with the Dewalt 3400 PSI pressure washer.

Compare this power to some of the electric pressure washers, like the Sun Joe SPX3000 or the Greenworks 2000 PSI pressure washer.

Using this pressure washer is easy

Dewalt must have gotten some bad feedback at some point because they pulled out all the stops with this pressure washer. For starters (ha), the starter on this machine is electric. It does have a battery that needs to be charged, but can save you some back pain as a deviation from the old pull-string.

Another cool feature here is that they made this idiot proof. For those of us that are inclined to ignore routine maintenance, Dewalt made our lives a whole lot easier. The first feature they created is a low oil shutdown feature. If the engine oil gets low, then it will shut down until you replace or put in more. No more burning the engine.

Looks sorta depressed in this picture 🙁

Another measure put into place is the water sensing device. This machine will not burn the motor up if water is not actively flowing into it. In fact, it will turn off if water is not detected inside the pump.

A downside here is that the hose that comes with this machine is only 25 feet long. This is simply not long enough for jobs that require more than 30 minutes of work or cover a larger area.

The little cousin – my Dewalt 3300 PSI pressure washer.

As a positive (and maybe negative, but we will get to that later), this machine comes with QuickConnect nozzles that allow for easy changing of the five different nozzles and even the sprayer arm. This makes it pretty easy to switch between certain nozzle heads and can save you time on the job.

Maintaining a gas powered pressure washer like the Dewalt 3400

As mentioned before, this will require new oil every now and then. The pressure washer comes with a big bag (no idea why it is in a bag) of oil for you to get started with, then the rest is on you. You will know when to change the oil because it will simply stop working (as mentioned previously).

Now let’s get down to durability. For most folks, this item seems to be totally fine. There are, however, a ton of negative reviews about the QuickConnect nozzles. It seems like there is a plastic connector from the metal nozzle to the spraying wand, which busts frequently. I have not personally experienced this, but a ton of other people have. Needless to say, this might not be the most durable item out there.

An aside: it really is hilarious the adjectives used to describe some of these products. Looking at the product guide now, there is a nice little call-out for the tires on this. The tires are pneumatic (!!!!) – which basically means they have air in them. And they are ten inches and allow for easy maneuverability across various terrain. Yep, you can take these to go mudding and then climb the side of a mountain with them and then even take them to Antarctica. I think they have a dartboard of adjectives they use and this one landed on the “just describe it like a Jeep” portion.

Air.

Price and value: Dewalt 3400 PSI pressure washer

The Dewalt 3400 PSI pressure washer will cost you about $500-550, otherwise known as a half a G – but I’ve seen it cheaper at Home Depot (check price here).

This thing is on the expensive side, but with great power comes great cost. In all reality, I would give this pressure washer a C. For CSatisfactory. It is a good pressure washer and does have a lot of power, but it seems 50/50 on whether or not it will break down on you.

Why we review pressure washers

The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! After hours and hours of research, trying products and returning them, and messing up our yards – we started this site.

How we spend our time.

For those of us cleaning the spray paint off of our cars from our crazy ex-girlfriends, you might want one that has a little more “umph” behind it.

Luckily for you, the Dewalt 3400 PSI pressure washer can handle both.

About Dewalt

Dewalt is absolutely a household name in basically anything tool-related. Best known for their drills, they also have blowers, electric lawn mowers, chainsaws, and more. They are really trying to bring universal battery coverage to many of their tools. That’s why they have a huge line of 20V products.

Dewalt is known for a ton of different tools.

While known for their diversity of products, they aren’t necessarily known for being power or durability driven. That’s why you see commercial HVAC folks and contractors using Makita and Milwaukee tools mostly.

Why Is The Sun Joe SPX3000 So Popular? My Experience

The Sun Joe SPX3000 is one of the most popular electric pressure washers because it is inexpensive and easy to use. It sounds a little scary to mix electricity and water like this, but for whatever reason – people are loving it.

The Sun Joe SPX3000 comes in two forms: the normal SPX3000 and the SPX3000-XT1. The XT1 version is the “XTREAM” version, and boy is it extreme (ha!).

Let’s get stated by looking at the following – click to jump ahead

Sun Joe SPX3000 Electric Pressure Washer Review: Features

Sun Joe produces electric lawn and home care equipment. They are popular for their dethatcher (you wouldn’t believe how satisfying it is), and of course their pressure washers. You likely found out about the pressure washer because it has more reviews than I thought humanly possible on Amazon. As of today, the Sun Joe SPX3000 has almost 45,000 reviews and 73% of them are five stars.

People love the SPX3000 but I can tell you right now, it is not for everyone. While one of the least expensive items on the pressure washer market, it certainly has a target demographic. I’ll break down who the target audience is and why this is so popular.

The Power Struggle of the Sun Joe SPX3000

The Sun Joe SPX3000 boasts a 2030 MAX PSI with 14.5 Amps. As a reminder, most pressure washers run about 2000-3000 PSI and are used around the home for cleaning decks, windows, driveways, cars, boats, and siding.

How the power is delivered.

Something to note here that I think has caused a stink among some people who have purchased the SPX3000. The 2030 MAX PSI advertised in the product name means that it has a PSI of 2030 at an absolute maximum. When not using the strongest setting (which is the zero degree setting) that shoots a straight pinhole sized beam of water, you will not get the 2030 PSI.

To learn more about PSI on pressure washers, read our about how to tell the difference between PSI and GPM and why they matter.

Why some people dislike this pressure washer

This is a huge frustration point to many who purchased this for a steal who think they will be able to do everything an industrial power washer can do. It even says in the Amazon product description “Cleans Cars/Fences/Patios”.

Well my friends, it says what it means. This thing is not going to blow off 10 years of grime from your second floor siding from 30 yards away. It is going to provide a pressured wash to items that can withstand moderate pressure like cars, fences, and patios. And it will do a dang good job at just that.

The heavy duty nozzle on the Sun Joe SPX3000 provides a lot of power, but not a very wide stream.

If you have the right expectations for the type of pressure washer you are going to get when you purchase the Sun Joe SPX3000, then you will be fine.

Why this is a best seller

Now you can see why this product is such a hot seller over at Amazon. Most people want to use a pressure washer for relatively light work around their house, condo, apartment, or townhome. They want something light, inexpensive, and tough enough for the job at hand.

The Sun Joe SPX3000 has everything you need for light work – but make sure to keep the work light.

The many nozzles

The Sun Joe SPX3000 comes with five different nozzle attachment tips. A zero degree, fifteen degree, twenty five degree, forty degree and soap tip. The larger the degree of tip you have on the front of this pressure washer, the weaker the spray and the larger the area of coverage.

The five different attachment tips on the SPX3000.

If you are pressure washing an outdoor metal fence, you can use the zero degree tip to blast away anything that is not metal. If you want to clean off your car, try the forty degree or soap tip as to not hurt the paint or any of the trim features.

Sun Joe SPX3000 basking in sunlight.

This Sun Joe SPX3000 also has a twenty foot hose, allowing you to extend your work over a modest sized difference.

The SPX3000 and soap

This pressure washer has two different detergent tanks that you can use to infuse the water in the pressure washer with soap. This means you can easily switch from your car (normal soap) to your deck (a bleach mixture).

Noise and the auto-stop feature on the Sun Joe SPX3000

If your neighbor has ever used a pressure washer, well you would know because it is overly loud and obnoxious. I was walking with my wife in our neighborhood and could hear a neighbor about seven houses down using his pressure washer. As we approached his house, he stopped using the pressure washer and tried talking to us.

The SPX3000 has a feature that turns off the whole machine, then turns it back on when you squeeze the trigger. This feature is super similar to a car that turns off at red lights and kicks back on when you press the gas. While not a huge selling point, it makes a difference with your ears and with your neighbors.

Storage and maintenance on the Sun Joe SPX3000

This product only weighs about 28 lbs, meaning it will fit into just about any portion of your garage, shed, or even inside your house. Being an electric device means that very little maintenance is required. You simply plug it in and it will do its thing, unlike gas powered pressure washers that rely on…gas.

The Sun Joe SPX3000 is super light, making it easy to store and maintain.

The SPX3000 also comes with a full two year warranty. While this is great, keep in mind that folks usually only use their pressure washer a couple of times per year. Make sure to get as much use out of it as possible for the two years are up in case anything is going to go wrong.

Sun Joe SPX3000 vs SPX3001

The only real difference between the SPX3000 and the SPX3001 is the hose reel. The SPX3001 comes with a hose reel that allows you to reel back in the hose instead of having to disconnect it and hand-wind it. This is a nice little convenience that comes at only $2 more on Amazon (right now). I think this is definitely worth the extra cost because you can more easily store your pressure washer.

What I didn’t like about this pressure washer

The Sun Joe SPX 3000 has a ton of reviews. While most are good, some are quite negative. Keep in mind that this product does not pretend to be an ultra strength pressure washing system. It is a mild strength pressure washer for light work.

If you’d like to pressure wash a big driveway or walkway, I recommend a larger, more powerful gas pressure washer. You can get decent pressure from the Sun Joe SPX3000, but the size of the spray at 0 degrees will only be an inch or two thick. It would take a very long time to wash concrete of decent size with that spray width.

Pressure issues aside, others have found a leaking issue with their pressure washer. Around the base where you connect the hose to the pressure washer, a plastic adapter was used. More recently, this has been replaced by an aluminum connector that has reduced the leaking issue.

This plastic fitting gives a lot of people problems.

This pressure washer is super cheap

Do not get your expectations up way too high for this product. It is plastic and costs somewhere between $150 and $200. This is a very inexpensive pressure washer, especially when compared to some of the gas powered pressure washers

For the power that it provides, the cost that it is, and the jobs that you can do with it – it is a great value.

Our overall review: The Sun Joe SPX3000

The Sun Joe SPX3000 is a great pressure washer for people who are doing lighter jobs. I would recommend this pressure washer for cleaning cars, boats, windows, or very small deck or patio work.

Instagram vs. Reality.

If you are wanting to blast off a long sidewalk or a driveway, you will absolutely need a gas powered pressure washer. The power from this pressure washer simply will not get you good results for tough, dirty jobs.

That being said, if you live in a condo, townhome or apartment, this is the best pressure washer for the money. You can easily store this in a utility closet and will likely not have a job too big for the Sun Joe SPX3000. This will be great for your small patio, walkway, or outdoor furniture. You truly cannot beat the price.

The Sun Joe SPX3000 is currently on sale over at Amazon for about $40 lower than the listed price. Buy it today and start the Spring with a fresh clean.
