Greenworks and snow blower go very well together in the same sentence. The product is beneficial for individuals who live at high altitudes and experience snow more than I do down here in the South. The auger control system guides the Greenworks snow blower perfectly. I’m talking poetry in motion.

The handle moves according to the lightest of wrist movements, allowing for flawless and responsive movement.

Variable speed control on the Greenworks Snow Blower

The Greenworks snow blower is very easy to operate with an interface very similar to a battery-operated lawn mower. Simply press down the safety button and pull up the bar. The self-propelled function will instantly begin turning the wheels. Once you are done using it, release the bar to turn it off. However, once the auger is launched, the 8-inch wheels instantly start doing their thing.

The Greenworks Pro 60v 22-inch brushless snow blower features an automatic steering system. The speed provides optimum control on different terrains and slopes. Furthermore, you can also choose where you want to launch the snow.

Why the Greenworks Snow Blower Chute matters

You can alternate the chute angle options on the side of the control box. Push or aim it toward the left or right at a 90-degree angle. The 180 degree rotating chute gives you total control over which side you want to launch the snow, which is great for if you are making several passes, allowing it to all be launched to the same side instead of going back and forth and spreading over the area you just cleared.

Battery time – Greenworks 60V series

The snowblower comes with two ports for battery insertion. However, you only need one battery to operate it successfully. The second port is an additional option to elongate the run time. 

When both batteries are inserted, the system alternates by prioritizing the more used battery with an “Automatic Switchover” (as seen below). Now you can remove snow without any hiccups.

The snowblower sucks the snow and then re-launches it wherever you want (preferably your neighbors yard). The internal machinery prevents clogging and keeps the snow moving smoothly. It can handle a lot of snow, making it a longtime companion. The only downside is that it does not automatically make a snowman for you.

The rubber paddles work in cohesion with the steel impeller. Both the parts are replaceable according to the warranty guidelines. However, the rubbers must be frequently replaced for efficient results. On the other hand, replace the impeller as necessary, assuming you live in a region that uses salt frequently.

Greenworks 40V chainsaws are top tier chainsaws that are perfect for use around your home and neighborhood.

If you’ve read any of our stuff before, you know that we are kind of obsessed with Greenworks. They did not pay us for this post and haven’t paid us for anything – we are being honest.

They are probably our favorite all-around electric lawn tool provider. 

As self-proclaimed chainsaw experts who have reviewed a handful of Stihl gas-powered chainsaws and a couple electric chainsaws as well, we decided to give the Greenworks 40V chainsaw a spin.

Greenworks G-MAX 40V 16 inch cordless chainsaw: Benefits and features

Let’s check out all of the features available in the Greenworks G-MAX 40V 16 inch mower. Many of these comparisons will be against a gas chainsaw, which are the most commonly used chainsaws. We also do some comparisons to other electric chainsaws.

Greenworks electric chainsaw Power

The first thing I will say that I love about the Greenworks cordless chainsaw is that it comes with a brushless motor.

For those of you who haven’t heard of brushless motors, they use magnets instead of friction to generate power. This comes with a few benefits:

  • Longer run-time
  • Significantly quieter and less “whiny”
  • More durable motor life
  • Double the torque

These things take a battery powered chainsaw from good to great. Oh, and the motor here is equivalent to a 35cc gas chainsaw. Woah.

Speaking of torque and power, this chainsaw can cut through a 15 inch piece of lumber pretty reliably. This is perfect for any homeowner who is trying to cut up a fallen tree after a storm.

Usability and feel of the Greenworks battery chainsaw

Another great thing about cordless chainsaws is the decrease in noise. While this isn’t absolutely quiet, it is significantly more quiet than a gas chainsaw.

The lack of fumes is also pleasing, meaning I can stay focused on a single cut without choking through the fumes. 

Me finding random excuses to use it.

The Greenworks 40V 16 inch chainsaw has some pretty slick anti-vibration technology. Compared to a gas chainsaw, and even some of the electric chainsaws out there, we loved the feel this one had. It was extremely “tight” feeling in that you knew it was delivering some serious linear power, but it didn’t make your hands go numb with vibration like some of the others.

Also, coming in at just over 10lbs makes it maneuverable and easy to use. The whole experience is pretty pleasant.

Maintenance, safety and battery life

Unlike most gas chainsaws, the Greenworks 16 inch 40V G-MAX chainsaw doesn’t require any gas or oil mixtures. The battery is a 40V 4 Ah lithium ion battery that can make it through about 140 cuts of smaller lumber – mostly the size of smaller branches (around 4 inches). 

Still, this battery life puts it in the top tier of battery powered chainsaws.

The Greenworks cordless chainsaw has a chain brake and a low kickback chain that helps prevent accidental kickbacks. 

This angle is sweet.

The tool-less tension adjustment on the body of the chainsaw allow for quick adjustments to chain tension and easy loosening to maintain the chain.

The last-piece here which is important is the auto-oiling function. Candidly, a lot of chainsaws have this function, but it is always good to see it in the Greenworks one. Make sure to store this flat instead of hanging, otherwise the oil will drip down the blades and onto whatever surface is below.

Greenworks 40V 16 inch chainsaw vs 12 inch chainsaw

The 16 inch chainsaw is super popular, but so is the 12 inch chainsaw.

A few key differences include the brushless motor on the 16 inch chainsaw vs the traditional brushed motor on the 12 inch. The 12 inch chainsaw is obviously shorter as well, not giving you the same cutting depth as is possible with the 16 inch chainsaw. Lastly, the 12 inch chainsaw comes with a 2 Ah battery instead of a 4 Ah battery, meaning it will not be able to make as many cuts.

Some other good Greenworks products.

All in all, the 12 inch is great for residential folks as well, but is going to limit you with larger trees and branches. Totally fine if that isn’t what you’re looking for.

The 12 inch can still do a lot of jobs, but falls short in power.

From a price perspective, the 16 inch chainsaw is only slightly more expensive. To me, it makes the most sense to go with the 16 inch to get a stronger battery, better tool, for only a little bit more money.

Final review: Greenworks GMAX 40V 16 inch cordless chainsaw

This is a top tier cordless chainsaw, on par with some of the gas chainsaws available on the market. In comparison to some of our other cordless chainsaws, this one is not only more powerful and longer lasting, but more durable as well.

What to look for in a chainsaw

A solid chainsaw is one of the most important tools a homeowner can have. Buying the right one is absolutely essential to your kids thinking you’re a cool man or woman. Chainsaws come in a variety of different shapes, sizes, types and models. Most are either gas or electric powered. Depending on your application of course, most people can get away with a 14” bar and chain. Unless you’re cutting up massive trees you probably don’t need anything bigger than that. 

16 inch version is serious stuff.

In addition to that, most people nowadays can probably get away with an electric model vs a more powerful, smoother cutting gas powered model. But it’s all personal preference. However, honestly I tend to always go with the bigger more powerful engines because I think they’ll last longer. So far that’s proven to be true, but I could just be wasting money. 

Must-have chainsaw features

Just make sure your chainsaw at least has a kickback reduction feature. This prevents you from losing one of your precious fingers! You only have 10 of them ya know! Kickback reductions can be in the form of the chain or bar itself. Basically these just prevent you from cutting too aggressively which prevents your saw from bouncing back on you. Or a chain brake which causes the chain to stop when it hits something hard or moves too abruptly 

Other features that are nice to have are more comfort-centric. These include tool-less tensioners, mufflers, anti-vibration, automatic chain oilers, etc.

The Greenworks 3000 PSI pressure washer is the best electric pressure washer I’ve used. I bought this pressure washer online and used it on my driveway, patio pavers, and back deck. I was super impressed by the power this had and loved that it had big bulky wheels that made it easier to move around.

A brushless electric motor is also included in this model. This means it is more efficient than standard motors and increases torque. The motor is also backed by a 10-year warranty, as Greenworks believes the motor is so durable that it can withstand your demand.

An all-purpose pressure washer, the Greenworks PRO 3000: with just a single nozzle change, it can wash your car and clean your siding. 

We have this one in our top list of electric pressure washers, too.

This is the most powerful pressure washer offered by Greenworks, making it our top choice. You get the benefits of a gas-powered pressure washer without the hassle.

Lightweight and practical with 2000 PSI, this model has the power to take care of any household cleaning task. It is also an affordable addition to any spring cleaning kit.

Universal motors are designed to last for an extended period of time, protecting your investment in electric pressure washers. Furthermore, the whole device is waterproof (which makes sense). In addition, the Greenworks warranty covers your purchase for three years.

Barely looks like a tool.

Greenwork offers a variety of nozzles for this pressure washer. You can customize your pressure washer accordingly. 

This one is also pretty powerful, although slightly lower PSI than the one above. It is smaller, making it slightly easier to store.

Cons

  • Bad history with valves and leakage

This one is so lightweight and mobile that it should be illegal. But its not. Its dirt cheap on Amazon (less than $200 last time I checked).

3. Greenworks 1500 PSI 1.2 GPM electric pressure washer

Pressure washers like this one from green works are perfect for quick projects. One of its best features is its handheld design.

 You can take this bad boy basically anywhere and hook it up to a hose. It is super light and mobile, but probably not going to be great for blasting away spray paint or anything.

It gets shipped to your house in an envelope.

It can be carried around like a stereo and won’t require any maintenance at all. If I lived in a townhome or condo and had some occasional outdoor cleaning to do, this would be the go-to pressure washer.

Pros

  • Compact and portable.
  • Nozzles with a quick connection.
  • Weightless.
  • Exceptionally low price.

Cons

● Lower pressure

● There are only two nozzles, with a 25 and 40 degree angle option.

This thing cracks me up. It’s like my first WalkMan – except it shoots out water at insanely high speeds. Technology, man.

It comes in at less than $100, which is mind boggling. I’ve seen some pretty insane sales on this too on Amazon , so give it a look before pulling the trigger (pun intended).

4. Greenworks 1700 PSI 1.2 GPM vertical pressure washer

With the GPW1703 1700 PSI  electric pressure washer from Greenworks, you can tackle smaller cleaning jobs with ease.  It makes cleaning easy and efficient by allowing you to pull it along like a suitcase at the airport. 

Among the Greenworks pressure washers, this is the lightest. It is designed to fit easily into a vehicle and be transported when needed. With its lightweight design and two wheels, it can be moved independently.

I could totally see myself running through the airport with this thing.

I think it also likes to party.

This is great for when you are outside, get slightly out of reach, and can quickly pull the handle and keep working.

Pros

● Lightweight.

● Affordable.

● Moving is easy.

Cons

● Lower PSI (but not too bad).

● Only three nozzles are available.

This Greenworks pressure washer has mid-range power, but the mobility of a champion. I like the wheels because it keeps the thing easy to move around for minor adjustments.

It is also mid-range on price, but is always changing on Amazon.

5. Greenworks 2000 PSI 13 Amp 1.1 GPM pressure 

The Greenworks 2000 PSI 13A 1.2GPM pressure washer (with hose reel) can clean everything. From your fence, housing outings, boat, garage, patio, house, and many others – you are getting this powerful and durable product from the company for a very reasonable rate, and you are getting it from Amazon for a very low price. 

This one has pretty good pressure and comes in at a decent price. Nothing 

You can travel a good distance from your power source with a 35 feet power cord and a 25-foot hose. In addition, it is vertically and horizontally stable while operating. 

Low profile but also futuristic.

I like that this comes with a pretty long extension cord, saving you some money and garage space. 

Pros

● Compact and easy to store.

● 1-year warranty.

Cons

● Pressure went down after a few months of use (but you have the warranty!)

This one is nice! It is definitely basic, but still backs a good punch. Not much to say here other than it is the most standard version of their pressure washer. Probably like a Honda Civic of pressure washers.

But that’s a popular car, and this is a popular pressure washer. Check the reviews and price on Amazon if you don’t believe me.

6. Greenworks 2000 PSI corded electric pressure washer

The Greenworks 2000 PSI GPW2001 is small, sweet, and compact. The frame is designed to make it portable – plus it comes with a nice hose reel. The hose reel is definitely convenient, but can also be frustrating.

Generally, when I try to pull the hose out of the hose reel, it will tip the machine over until I get enough slack out.

My advice is to unwind the hose reel a little bit until you get about 10 feet out, then you can start pulling without knocking the machine over.

Boats n’ hose.

Included in the purchase are 35 feet of power cord and 20 feet of HP hose. A soap sprayer and four nozzles will also be included.

The machine is durable, performs well, and is comfortable to use. It connects to nozzles easily and its spray fun is very convenient. It is affordable and offers great performance.

Pros

  • Long hose and power cable.
  • Lightweight.
  • Moving is easy.
  • No extra bucket is needed for detergent.
  • 1-year warranty.

Cons

Hose reel can cause it to topple over

This one looks cool but is slightly less cool to use, simply because the hose reel at the TOP of the pressure washer can cause it to topple over.

If you treat it right, it will treat you right. This is another good one from Greenworks and can be yours if you grab it on Amazon.

Final thoughts

You really can’t go wrong with a Greenworks pressure washer. Make sure you are matching the size of the job you are completing with the PSI in a pressure washer you will need.

Frankly, none of these pressure washers are going to be commercial-grade. They will do incredibly well with cleaning off a fence, patio, car, RV, windows, or really any surface. If you’re looking to blast away a few years of dirt off your driveway – I’d go with a gas one.

I like Greenworks because of their warranty and because they typically have super high quality products.

Greenworks products

Greenworks makes some of the best battery-powered and electric lawn tools on the planet. A few reasons why I am extremely bullish on this brand taking over the market:

  1. Quality
    • Greenworks has some of the highest quality battery-powered tools on the market. I attribute this mostly to their focus. Whereas some other brands (cough cough *Ryobi*) make a million products, Greenworks is focused on high quality tools. Although they have a smaller selection, the engineering and lasting life on each of these are worth it.
  2. Power
    • Greenworks products are generally high power. They also have some really nice lawn mowers that can easily replace any gas-powered push mower as well. 
  3. Looks
    • Greenworks products have the best looks of all battery-powered tools, hands-down. Most of their products are all-black, with a darker neon green accent. Much less gimmicky and plastic. 

What to look for in a pressure washer

You gotta know what to look for on these bad boys! Each one looks basically the same, but has subtle differences that completely change its capabilities.

Nozzles

When choosing a pressure washer, you should pay attention to the nozzles included in the package. Two types of spray nozzles are available, adjustable spray nozzles that can be controlled and quick-connect nozzles with predefined spray patterns.  

The predefined spray patterns typically come in different angles, allowing for you to quickly switch between a broad, lower pressure spray or a narrow, higher pressure stream.

Soap tank

Additionally, you may want to consider a cleaning system-equipped pressure washer. These units feature a tank for storing cleaning solutions. A bucket or a standalone sprayer will need to be used instead of this tank to apply the cleaning solution.

I recommend a soap tank for cars and windows.

Wheels

Despite these seemingly minor features, they can have a big impact, especially with larger units. No sense in lugging around one of these in your yard and tripping all over the place.

Hose

There’s a big difference between how easy or difficult it is to use a pressure washer based on the kind of hose that comes with it. Stiff, rigid hoses make it extremely difficult to have any maneuverability without messing up the job or knocking over the base.

The metal in here means something!

Portability

Even if this has the drawback of making the unit less powerful, a portable, smaller pressure washer will be a better choice if you have to move around or carry the unit with you. I own a pressure washer that is mounted to the wall, which is nice but NOT portable.

Both gas and electric pressure washers are available, although electric ones like Greenworks are often preferred for homeowners.

Let’s get started reviewing this pole saw so that you can get off your computer and start sawing stuff with a pole. 

Greenworks 40V 8-inch Cordless Pole Saw (20672) Feature review

Let me start off by saying the Greenworks 40V 8-inch Cordless Pole Saw (20672) is a beast. I would recommend it to just about anyone. That being said, it may not be the perfect fit for you. Check out each of the features and how they align with your needs. Let’s get started!

Length and power

Pole length and power on the Greenworks 40V pole saw are relatively synonymous. While the battery delivers 2 Ah of power, the length is really the biggest driver of power.

Long, powerful, perfect.

Think about it: when you are using a manual hand-saw or even a bread knife, what makes the biggest impact? It is all about using long, consistent strokes over a specific area. This goes with just about any similar action: filing nails, grating cheese, etc..

This power will be enough to break through most backyard limbs and branches without a concern. While you may not be knocking down sequoias, you will  have just about all the power you need for residential jobs. 

8 inches is huge!

8 inches is definitely on the smaller side, but has its advantages. One advantage of a smaller pole saw is that it allows you to be much more nimble. There is nothing more frustrating than getting the saw to the point in the tree that you want, only to be unable to fit it into a tight spot. An 8 inch pole saw allows you to do that.

What should I look for in a cordless pole saw?

When purchasing a cordless pole saw, there are a few items you need to check before getting started. Below is a guide to help you figure out what to look for in a cordless pole saw.

  1. Pole length
    • This might seem like an obvious answer, but you want to make sure you can find a pole saw that extends to the desired length before buying. The last place you want to be is on top of a ladder while extending out a dangerous piece of equipment. Get a pole saw that extends to the right height while allowing you to keep both feet safely on the ground.
  2. Saw length
    • Another way to put this is how big of a job do you have? The bigger the branch, the bigger the saw you will want. This one is super popular – and for good reason. The price on this blower combo kit is nearly impossible to beat.

One thing I love about both of these tools is that it takes Black and Decker’s super popular 20V max battery. For example, I have this battery and use it on my power drill. I could easily take it off of that and pop it onto the blower or trimmer.

While the trimmer here is pretty basic, it is going to be just fine for small yards. If you live in a townhome or otherwise have a tiny yard, this is all you will need.

The blower will leave a lot to be desired from a power perspective. It is super small and has an even smaller opening. BUT – this  may be all you need if you have a small yard. And as a positive, it is super quiet. Like eerily quiet.

While Dewalt isn’t recognized as much as some of the others for breadth of lawn equipment, they definitely have a solid core product line. We have reviewed their battery-powered mower in addition to the blower featured in this combo kit.

To summarize, the blower is pretty good but not great. It has a wide opening, which allows for a large jet stream of air, but the speed of the air isn’t as high as I would like. We review the whole thing in this blower review.

The string trimmer looks really sweet. In particular, we really like the squeeze handles at the top. Many manufacturers have normal triggers, but the squeeze triggers are so much easier to use and don’t cramp up your hands.

4. WORX WG928 GT 3.0 Grass Turbine 2 20V Batt/Charger Included String Trimmer Blower Combo Kit, Black and Orange

Well, that’s a mouthful but I wanted to make sure you knew which one I was talking about if you are perusing the online stores.

Here’s the thing I love about WORX. They have some great trimmers that double as edgers (see our GT Revolution review here). The trimmer listed here looks like it could double as an edger as well, has an intuitive, adjustable handle, and (my favorite) a battery that goes underneath the handle. The GT 3.0 trimmer is great trimmer aside from this combination kit.

The blower is okay. Probably on the lower end as far as speed goes. But that’s alright – you don’t need a ton of power unless you have a large yard or are working with wet leaves/grass. Remember to mow while it is dry and you will be fine.

Why can’t they just name these products something simple? Like “EGO Combo kit” or something?

Anyways, this is one of the more impressive combo kits on the market. EGO has great stuff, but they tend to be pretty expensive. This combo kit is no exception. 

The blower is a beast at 530 CFMs, which means it is probably blowing air well north of 100mph (not listed in the specs). It also has a brushless motor, which means it is built to last. You can’t get much higher quality than this EGO blower. 

The trimmer looks pretty standard – it is definitely bigger than most of the other trimmers on this list at 15 inches. Both of these products take a 56V battery – which can be used with a bunch of their other products.

As far as combos go, this one can handle much more than small yards. I think this would work for medium to large yards as well (if  that suits you).

While I am not a huge fan of Ryobi’s ONE+ series, I have to give it to them – this battery can do just about anything. I generally prefer the tools in their 40V battery line because they are heavier duty than the 18V battery in the ONE+ series. 

The main thing you are getting with this purchase is convenience. This is a relatively small Ryobi trimmer that can double as an edger (sorta). It is 10 inches, making it one of the smaller trimmers on here.

The blower will be great for things like a garage or patio, but honestly won’t get you very far in a bigger yard. The reason I ranked this set so highly is because Ryobi’s 18V battery in the ONE+ series can be used in a ton of other tools. That takes this product from a 2-tool kit, to about a 100-tool kit if you have the battery.

There are a few reasons to check out an electric weed eater when picking out your next lawn and garden tool kit. As compared to gas-powered weed eaters, electric weed eaters tend to be easier to use and maintain. At the end of a long winter season, you may have to refuel your gas powered weed eater and crank it a few times before you can get it to start. Gas blowers are superior from a power and durability standpoint. They are super strong, last many seasons, and quickly get the job done. They do require maintenance, gas, and crank-starts, which are a little more difficult for most people. I always recommend an electric blower for smaller yards, whereas larger yards are better served with gas blowers.

I have it at the bottom of the list not because it is simple, but because it is on the smaller side of mowers and still requires an extension cord. This doesn’t have the bells and whistles, but does still have a metal deck – meaning it will last a while.

The Greenworks G-Max 40V 20-inch mower comes across as extremely aggressive. In fact, it’s the opposite of the one above. It has ALL the bells and whistles. 

A 20 inch steel deck means it is going to be durable and allows for mulching, bag collection, or side discharge. This gives you some flexibility in how you groom your grass. The mower also detects when it is getting kickback from dense grass and will increase the blade speed to push through the job.

It takes two batteries and can cut the majority of home’s grass in a single charge. 

If you are looking for a heavy (it weighs 60 lbs) duty electric mower, you truly cannot go wrong with the G-Max 40V 20-inch mower. You can buy it today on Amazon for just under $400.

I love this dang mower. It comes with a few great things, chief of which is the brushless motor. Brushless motors last longer, require less energy, and don’t overheat the electrical unit. To me, they are non-negotiable when buying electronic equipment.

This mower also has a 20 inch steel deck and LED headlights, for all those times you mow in the middle of the night. There is also a “turbo” button which appears to speed up the blades just like in the previous mower. 

It truly is an amazing, long-lasting mower that can be purchased on Amazon today for right at $399.

This one is pretty neat – one of the only 48V mowers.

8.Greenworks 21-inch 40V Self propelled cordless lawn mower

The 21 inch deck on this mower makes it one of the larger mowers that Greenworks makes. As I mentioned previously, I’m not the biggest fan of self-propelled mowers – BUT – a LOT of people are. Their muscles simply aren’t as large as mine. 

It is definitely a sleek looking mower with the majority of the body being black. This is the perfect mower for someone with a larger yard who gets tired pushing for a long time. 

At a slightly higher price point, this mower is currently available on Amazon.

7. Greenworks 25302 20 inch 40V Twin Force Cordless mower

The Greenworks 25302 is one of the earlier models made by Greenworks. It doesn’t have a steel cutting deck, but it is one of the lighter mowers for its 20-inch size. 

It has a 40V battery that can be used in a ton of different Greenworks products and will run for about an hour. There is also an opportunity to add a second battery to it for it to go even longer. 

This mower is great, not intimidating, and has wonderful reviews on Amazon by older women. If this sounds like you, then buy it on Amazon and join the club.

The Greenworks 10 Amp 16-inch corded mower is a plug-in, mostly plastic mower. So why did I rank it so high?

This mower is a simple design and basically all you will need for a thorough cut. It is one of the premium corded (requiring an extension cord) mower on the market. A great thing about this mower is that its super light, easy to start, and easy to store.

This is one of the better looking mowers offered by Greenworks, IMO. It is almost pure black, has a big ole steel cutting deck, and looks like any other gas mower on the market. 

It comes with a nice mulching bag, but can also do mulching or side discharge (this is what I do). One thing I love about this mower is of course the BRUSHLESS MOTOR. It will last you for a long time.

Greenworks also does a great job of making easy-to-store mowers that can fit into a tight space in your garage or shed. If you want one of the better looking electric mowers on the market, buy this mower on Amazon (lowest price I could find).

Okay, so it may not make a ton of sense that this one ranks so highly but I will explain why. It is a 48V mower that is 17 inches wide, making it great for small yards. The beauty in this mower is that it can be purchased in a combination set.

Yep, you can get it with a blower, a trimmer, or both. It will also come with a dual battery charger, which is super convenient for all of the different tools. 

I recommend going with this one if you are looking for an all-in-one solution. This set is great for those that are new homeowners, wanting to make the switch to electric, or have a smaller yard.

Okay so I had absolutely no choice but to rank this one higher than the mower above because it has some similar attributes. Both are at an incredible price point in their category and both are wildly popular.

This mower runs off of a 40V battery that can be used with a ton of other Greenworks tools. This bad boy is simple to use, small enough to tackle tight spaces, lightweight, and easy to store.

What to look for in a battery-powered lawn mower

When looking to purchase an electric lawn mower, you need to make sure you understand what things matter. You will get hit with a lot of technical specifications and marketing tactics. Totally forget them and focus on the things that impact you. Below are my recommendations:

  • Brand quality. Quality is going to be super important here. Everyone is in the electric mower game these days and there are a ton of junky mowers out there. Avoid anything from a weird brand on Amazon that takes 9 years to ship. It is probably being 3D printed in a Laotian bathroom. Go for brands that have consistent quality and focus on the details, not just flashy colors.
  • Metal where it matters. Most electric mowers are plastic-y. Probably to reduce the weight of the mower so that the battery can get you further, but it feels cheap. Make sure to get metal where it matters – namely the deck. The deck is the part that covers the blades. Don’t get plastic here – a rock can rip through it.
  • Battery interoperability. A ten dollar word used here, but really just make sure to buy a mower with a battery that is compatible with other electric tools. Ryobi has this, so does Dewalt, and so do some of the Greenworks products. This will save you garage clutter and plug space.
  • Self-propelled or not. I actually don’t like the self-propelled feature. It doesn’t help you that much and it drains battery – I would pass here. This is a marketing gimmick in my opinion.

There are so many options of electric mowers out there that it was tough to narrow it down. Luckily, I am a huge nerd about this stuff.

1. EGO Power+ LM2101 21 inch 56 V electric mower

Number one! The Ego Power+21 inch 56V mower is the one of the best electric mowers on the market. EGO makes a ton of different lawn tools and the mower is top of the line. EGO basically only makes electric lawn tools, so you know they have mastered the mower.

One of the main benefits of this mower is the wide deck, meaning it has a decent cutting area with each pass you make. The larger the yard, the larger the cutting area.

21 inches is a perfect happy medium for small yards because it allows you to cover a good amount of ground while still being nimble.

This has all of the features you look for in an electric mower: a nice interoperable battery, easy to fold and store, durable, and powerful. Give it a look on Amazon (it is still kind of a secret). 

2. Greenworks 80V 21 inch Cordless Push Lawn Mower

I like Greenworks’ mowers because they tend to be pretty thoughtfully made. Their Greenworks 21-inch mower with an 80v battery is definitely up there for me. As one of the more popular electric mowers on the market (almost 6,000 reviews). 

This mower has dual blades, allowing for a better cut and for finer mulching. This is pretty equivalent to a gas mower, except the electric version where you can’t really tell a difference. Greenworks also has some super powerful tools like their blowers where this battery can be super helpful. The Greenworks 80V 21 inch mower has a great quality cut and is super quiet.

Highly recommended and a nice kick-off to our top three.

3. Makita XML03CM1 Brushless 18” lawn mower

Makita makes really high quality power tools and so when they release an under-the-radar electric Makita mower with surprising power , you know it is going to be good. This sucker comes with 4 batteries, a metal deck, and a brushless motor. Basically everything you could like about an electric mower, the Makita has. Compared to most other mowers, this has a significantly longer run time.

For those with smaller yards, the 18 inch metal deck is just about ideal.

Love it.

The fact that you won’t burn all your batteries means that you will have plenty of juice left for your other Makita tools. 

The Makita XML03CM1 is just about perfect. If you get it without all the batteries, its actually pretty dang affordable on Amazon.

4. Ryobi 40V Brushless 20 inch electric lawn mower

The Ryobi 40V series lawn mower is part of a 40V battery series that makes a ton of good tools that you can use, including blowers and weed eaters. You can also use the battery in this mower for those. That is the type of interoperability I’m talking about!

This also has a brushless motor, is super simple to use, but sadly has a plastic deck – which is keeping out of the top 3. This is one of the most popular electric mowers in the world, so if you do go ahead with this purchase: you are in good company.

It is another medium sized mower that will get just about any small to mid sized yard done easily. Great purchase here, IMO if you can get it from an online retailer and ship it.

5. Black and Decker 40V Max Cordless Lawn mower

While I’m not a huge fan of black and decker, this is basically a mirror of the Ryobi mower. They are virtually identical in every aspect. Black and Decker also has a yuuuuuuuge collection of tools that take a 40v battery. 

This mower is slightly more versatile in that it has a thing called EDGEMAX that allows you to mow super close to other surfaces, which is nice. Otherwise, this one is orange and black colored, which I tend to favor more than the neon green of Ryobi. 

This one is also for sale on Amazon, but the price is hidden, so go check it out for yourself.

I recommend this one to anybody with Black and Decker tools already.

Can’t go wrong with this one.

6. Toro Recycler 22in SmartStow 60V max mower

There are a lot of things to like about this mower. First of all, I love Toro and have reviewed a ton of their mowers. They are always dependable and do an incredible job. This isn’t number one on this list for a couple of reasons.

It’s pretty big – maybe bigger than you need for a teeny tiny yard, but good for a small-medium yard. Another thing that is working against the battery version of the Toro recycler is the lack of battery interoperability. There just aren’t enough popular tools that the Toro battery works with. As a standalone, this is still a great option, however.

7. Dewalt 21.5 in 20V Max push mower

I like the Dewalt 21.5 in 20V mower because it is so simple. Dewalt has a jillion tools that you can use the battery with. If you look at this product, it is the most standard looking lawn mower in the world, other than the fact that it is bright yellow. 

This thing is pretty sweet.

The Dewalt 21.5 in 20V mower has a brushless motor as well, making it longer lasting and quieter. It has a big metal deck as well, which means you won’t have rocks cutting through the deck and breaking it completely. It is a pricier electric mower (around $550), but I think you get what you pay for here.

8. Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V 16in cordless mower

This one has so much potential! It has all the bells and whistles that you would want in an electric mower, but has a plastic deck still. The Ryobi ONE series is pretty popular and has a good amount of tools in it, but not as many as the 40V series from Ryobi. 

This is one of the nicer looking, mid-sized electric mowers on the market. It comes with two batteries that can be used in a bevy of other tools. It overall is a great mower, but gets dinged by me for not being a part of the 40V series and having a plastic deck. Still a good purchase if you are someone that has existing Ryobi ONE+ 18V batteries. You can find it for a decent price on Amazon if you get the tool-only version (meaning you use your same battery).

9. Greenworks PRO 17 inch 48V battery mower

Now that we are in the top 10, our game has stepped up quite a bit. This is another great Greenworks mower with a 17 inch deck (slightly larger than the previous Greenworks corded mower). It comes with two 24v batteries which appear to work with a couple of other Greenworks products, but not all of them.

This one will last you significantly longer than the other mowers and be able to take on much more work. The Greenworks PRO 17 inch 48V battery mower also offers a brushless motor, which makes it last much longer and is overall much quieter. It does still have a plastic deck, which I absolutely despise – so it is staying in the back half of this list.

Right now, Greenworks is selling mowers for a great price on Amazon, giving you a really good deal heading into the mowing season.

10. Greenworks 10A 16-inch corded electric mower

Alright, if you are looking for a slight step up from the Sun Joe MJ401E (reviewed above), this is it. It is still powered by an extension cord but is a couple of inches bigger and has a few more customizable features. This one could definitely get you much further than the Sun Joe and actually has a mulching feature as well. 

Greenworks is a little better than Sun Joe as a brand in my opinion. They make heavier-duty mowers and blowers and focus just on yard tools. Sun Joe is an outgrowth of Snow Joe, which was the original brand that made things like snow shovels.

This one is slightly more expensive than the Sun Joe, but still a steal (lol). Right now, it’s on sale at Amazon for a really good price.

11. Sun Joe MJ401E Mow Joe 14 inch electric mower

While this mower does get a couple dings from me, its price makes up for it. The first ding is that its plastic and looks like a turtle. Everything is plastic and likely won’t last a super long time. It is also tiny and requires an extension cord. 14 inches is not a big mower. 

Some other good Sun Joe swag.

But here are a few things I do like. This is perfect from people who live in a townhome or condo and have a little bit of grass. It’s going to cut the grass fine, but it’s not going to handle tough terrain or tall weeds. If you’re looking for something super cheap and easy to use, this is basically a little yard vacuum.

12. Worx Power Share 14 in 40V cordless mower 

I’ve actually grown to love WORX products, including their mulcher and electric edger

One benefit to this mower is that the two 20V batteries can be used on most of their other products.

It’s plastic all over and only cuts ⅛ acre per charge. If you do like the Worx series however, you can use these batteries with any of their tools – which can save you a lot of money. The price tag is also around $300, making it a decent deal.

13. Green Machine 62V Cordless electric mower

Using our ranking criteria, this one would actually rank decently. It is missing in a couple big areas, however. The Green Machine 62V Cordless Mower is a no-name brand (sorry), and has a 62V battery that is not usable with probably any equipment you own today. 

A few positives: it has a metal deck and looks pretty nice. It has a decently large cutting deck as well, at 22 inches. This puts it in the higher end of our list if you have a small-to-medium sized yard. This mower seems to sell exclusively at Home Depot and exclusively online – and you can grab it here.

What to look for in an electric lawn mower

When looking to purchase an electric lawn mower, you need to make sure you understand what things matter. You will get hit with a lot of technical specifications and marketing tactics. Totally forget them and focus on the things that impact you. Below are my recommendations:

  1. Brand quality. Quality is going to be super important here. Everyone is in the electric mower game these days and there are a ton of junky mowers out there. Avoid anything from a weird brand on Amazon that takes 9 years to ship. It is probably being 3D printed in a Laotian bathroom. Go for brands that have consistent quality and focus on the details, not just flashy colors.
  2. Metal where it matters. Most electric mowers are plastic-y. Probably to reduce the weight of the mower so that the battery can get you further, but it feels cheap. Make sure to get metal where it matters – namely the deck. The deck is the part that covers the blades. Don’t get plastic here – a rock can rip through it.
  3. Battery interoperability. A ten dollar word used here, but really just make sure to buy a mower with a battery that is compatible with other electric tools. Ryobi has this, so does Dewalt, and so do some of the Greenworks products. This will save you garage clutter and plug space.
  4. Self-propelled or not. I actually don’t like the self-propelled feature. It doesn’t help you that much and it drains battery – I would pass here. This is a marketing gimmick in my opinion.

Greenworks 2000 PSI pressure washer: Feature review

The Greenworks 2000 PSI pressure washer has a lot to like, but also has some quirks and nuances that make it different from its competitors. Let’s get started.

Power expectations at 2000 PSI

Okay – as I mentioned earlier, power is something that is as important as you need it to be. For those of us just washing windows, cars, garage doors, siding or other lighter-duty jobs, you frankly do not need much power. 

The Greenworks 2000 PSI pressure washer has…..2000 PSI. To put this in perspective, this is on the lower end of the spectrum when evaluating pressure washers AKA not that much power. 

If you are looking to blast away all the dirt and grime from your driveway or sidewalk, the Greenworks pressure washer will simply not be sufficient (unless you want to take 40 hours to do this). You see, pressure can be modified by the size of the nozzle head. Smaller nozzles = higher amounts of power. 

Putting the nozzles on is a snap, literally!

By simple math (or something), smaller nozzles deliver higher power with the tradeoff that you can cover less area. The purpose of this demonstration was to highlight that nozzle modification will only get you so far. If you don’t have the power of a higher PSI engine, typically delivered by a gas-powered engine, you won’t ever be able to get to a high power level. 

You will see a similar phenomenon from Greenworks biggest rival, Sun Joe. They have a similar wildly popular pressure washer called the SPX3000, which we review here.

Usability of electric pressure washers

Alright, now that we understand the power limitations (which is not necessarily a bad thing), let’s talk about the usability of this machine. When I say usability, I mean operator experience. What is it like to actually use this product? What should the ideal product feel like?

Well, this product is easy to use. Frankly, any electric pressure washer is going to be easy to use because it has fewer moving parts and requires less tinkering to get started. 

We love how this has a quick-on switch.

The Greenworks 2000 PSI pressure washer comes with a soap dispensing kit as well as a soap nozzle. These are ideal for providing a soapy base before washing off all of the dirt and grime for whatever is on the other end of the pressure washer. Most pressure washers have some sort of functionality like this that makes the job super easy.

Now here comes the downside. The Greenworks pressure washer only has a 25 foot hose. While this is fine, many of its competitors have longer hoses – closer to 35 or 40 feet. This means you have to stop what you are doing and move the base. Not the worst thing in the world, but I guarantee there will be times you will have to stop and move the base around, left wishing that your hose was a few feet longer.

Now that we have a good understanding of what kind of power and usability quirks the Greenworks 2000 PSI pressure washer has, let’s review the durability. It is difficult to define what good durability is for a pressure washer. Most folks do not use their pressure washer more than a few times per year. 

If I am being totally honest, I’ve read a ton of other user reviews and there are a lot of good ones, but also a lot of bad ones. Most of the bad ones talk about some sort of leak in the pressure box. That being said, the whole dang machine is made of plastic – there are going to be some that get manufactured and break. 

I also don’t think this has a brushless motor which is super surprising for a Greenworks pressure washer.

Its so durable that you can use it on top of rocks!

Greenworks Electric Dethatcher Review (+ How-To Guide)

My Greenworks Dethatcher is a lawn tool that I became obsessed with the second I started using it. Dethatchers work by pulling up old, dead grass that is embedded in the soil of your lawn. This provides the most satisfying experience ever when you use it.

This dead grass, or “thatch”, prohibits your living grass from getting nutrients and can cause your grass to appear thin. Dethatchers have historically been tough-looking heavy rakes that you could pull across your lawn by hand. 

Let’s get started!

When and why to use a dethatcher on your yard

Dethatching your yard is one of the most satisfying lawn tasks. If you are one of those people who likes pimple popping videos or loves to peel off the plastic of a new appliance, then dethatching will be your jam.

It basically pulls up all this dead grass that is stuck to your lawn and pushes it to the top of your yard. You can almost hear your yard start breathing again. 

The time of year to dethatch your yard is just prior to the aerating and overseeding process. For us, this time of year is in October, but can vary depending on where you live. Dethatching right before aerating and seeding gives the best possible chance for your seeds to make contact with soil.

First, you pull up the dead grass with the dethatcher. Once you have pulled all of this up and gotten rid of it, then you can aerate. You will want to aerate your lawn immediately after dethatching, then overseed the lawn. This will put seed straight on the open soil and give it the best success to grow into a thick, luscious lawn.

My experience using this dethatcher

I used my Greenworks dethatcher for the first time this year on my relatively newly sodded lawn in Austin, TX. Despite only having a year or two of life, I got an insane amount of thatch off the ground. Here’s how it worked.

The Greenworks Dethatcher comes with an easy push to start functionality. This push to start feature allows for guaranteed starts after being stored through a cold winter. It boasts a 14 inch width for the tines (the little spikes that pull up thatch), which gives it an immediate advantage over some of its competitors. 

The handles fold in and allow for easy storage. As do other dethatcher in its class, it does not use any batteries and requires no charging. Rather, the Greenworks dethatcher requires an extension cord. As I mentioned in my last dethatcher review, a fifty foot extension cord is recommended. Longer extension cords can become quite heavy and cumbersome to move throughout your yard.

Comfort is important to me, and as a tall person I highly value the longer handles that come with the Greenworks dethatcher. These are much more comfortable and help me stay out in the yard longer. 

This is surprisingly powerful

Not sure what kind of power you can expect with an electric dethatcher. This is not a gas guzzler and is not meant to really provide any power. But it does have 10A of power running through it. It does not have a self propelled feature persay, but does inch forward with the help of the thines moving forward trying to pull up grass. 

When I was using this dethatcher and testing out the power, I noticed that it wasn’t an issue – the issue was moving slowly, which is basically just what I have to do when I use a dethatcher.

This dethatcher is simple and durable

While most people scoff at plastic and electric lawn tools, I think this one really does have great durability. I have not put too much use into mine, but have heard others talk about the longevity of the tines. The tines are the little pieces of metal that actually pick up and displace the dead grass on the bottom of the dethatcher. You would expect some wear and tear, but they appear to last quite a while.

This is really a simple machine that does not require any maintenance. When broken down to its functional components (kind of like active ingredients in supplements), it is just an electric power circle of little spikes. Not much can go wrong.

This one was really easy for me to break down and fold in half in my garage, basically just like how it came out of the box.

My yard now looks way better after using this

My Greenworks dethatcher will pull up the dead grass from the top of my yard without fail. As long as it is moderately dry outside, it will not have a problem getting to the thatch and giving your grass some room to breathe. 

Clean-up, however, is a different issue. Compared to several other electric dethatchers, the Greenworks dethatcher does not come with a bag. Do not fret! The bags that come with the dethatchers are almost comically small.

I was surprised with the amount of grass that came up from this tool. You will likely fill your bag after about 5 to 8 feet of pushing. With that in mind, most people use all dethatchers without bags. 

To clean up, simply grab your mower, put it on a high setting, slap the bag on, and do a quick run over the yard to suck up all the thatch. You can always use a blower, a heavy duty rake, or whatever you would like to clean up the yard. 

Comparison: Greenworks dethatcher vs Sun Joe dethatcher

If you are looking at an electronic dethatcher online, you are likely picking between these two. Both are the top sellers on Amazon and combined have over 20,000 reviews. Both look very similar and both have almost 5 stars on Amazon. 

Luckily, I have owned both and even tested them side by side to see which one did a better job of pulling up thatch.

Functionality and power

To compare the two, let’s start with functionality. They function identically. Both are powered by an extension cord, move at the same speed, and electronically pull up thatch. The advantage goes to Greenworks here because they have a slightly bigger tine deck. 14 inches in the Greenworks vs 13 inches in the Sun Joe dethatcher. You will get more out of each pass using the Greenworks.

Add-ons

Something else to consider when comparing these products is the availability of add-on features. Greenworks offers zero add ons to their product, whereas Sun Joe offers a scarifier and a bag. As mentioned previously, the bag is meaningless and most people trash it. The scarifier applies blades to the soil to help cut through and tough thatch and provide a modest amount of aeration. The advantage in this category goes to Sun Joe.

Cost and value

As of right now, the Sun Joe dethatcher costs around $150 and the Greenworks dethatcher comes in right around $130. Both are going to last a long time and both are of very similar quality. If it were me (and it is me), I am going with the Greenworks.

Y’all this is a relatively easy one for me. I will save $20 and go with the Greenworks dethatcher if I had to do it over again. It operates the same, has great durability, is slightly wider, and a good bit cheaper.

I Tested Out Greenworks 40V 21″ Brushless Mower and Loved It

First impressions of the Greenworks Pro 40V 21” Brushless Self-Propelled Lawn Mower

Though I haven’t always been the biggest fan of electric mowers, the Greenworks mower has caught my attention for a variety of different reasons; the light, compact design, the SmartCut™ technology which enables you to adjust blade speed, and the variable speed setting to control how fast the mower goes. The cool green color makes it pop too! Also, it’s a nice touch that this comes with a spare blade.

This Greenworks 40V mower is very intuitive. It includes a start button (which is very strange for a guy who is used to ripping a string to get his mower humming). Now I just click a button and it quietly hums along.

It also includes a turbo button to, you guessed it, turn up the power on your cuts. It also includes an on-board battery indicator up by the throttle control so you can easily see how much power you have left. 

The mower also has EZ Fold Handles which cause it to break down and store with ease. It also features a 7-position single lever height adjustment handle on the back right side which I must say is a pretty sweet addition. I can’t stand having to change all four of my different wheel heights and inevitably I forget to change one and have uneven cuts for a few passes.

Durability – the metal deck on the Greenworks mower

The 21” steel deck should provide good durability in the event you run over a rock, stick or tennis ball. When compared to plastic decks, metal decks are FAR superior.

Greenworks also provides a 4 year tool & battery warranty which is pretty long in my opinion. It must mean they stand by their product! I believe most mowers have a 3 year warranty so adding that additional year means they must really believe in their product. 

Lastly – a brushless motor makes this a super great option for long-term use. Brushless motors are cooler, longer lasting, and way more durable.

Battery Life

Greenworks 40V mower boasts a 60 minute battery and I’m like… So?… Unless you have ¼ to ½ an acre yard this is simply not enough time to cut your yard – Especially if you use the NOS, I mean turbo button.

The 80V battery is also popular for other products.

But in reality, this ends up being enough juice for most people. You can either buy an additional battery, or consider conserving battery life by making sure to mow when the grass is completely dry or by leaving the self-propelled function off.

My experience using Greenworks’ 40V lineup of mowers

The mower itself is pretty light and easy to handle even though the deck is made of steel. Most people from the age of 12 – 65 should be able to handle this mean green mowing machine just fine. It also folds up in a self proclaimed “2 seconds.” So take that for what you will.

I don’t know how that really impacts the way the mower works but I guess it makes it that much quicker to a nice brewski during a hot summer afternoon. 

SmartCut technology from Greenworks

Greenworks also uses a SmartCut technology that lets you control how fast your blade spins, thereby impacting how long your battery lasts as well. The battery pack on this mower says you can run it for 60 minutes but that will more than likely be on the lowest setting possible and the minute you start to introduce hills and tougher mowing conditions your battery will be zapped.

Also this mower is rated for a ¾ of an acre yard but my yard is ¾ an acre and I’ve never mowed it in less than an hour so I’d imagine I’ll have to buy another battery to finish the whole yard.

Clipping control settings

In addition to controlling how fast the blade spins you can also control what happens to your clippings, you can select 1 of 4 different mowing settings: Mulch, Bagging, Side Discharge and Leaf Pick-Up. Personally, I have no idea why anyone would use the side discharge option. It seems like it’d be such a mess to me. I see myself using the mulch and leaf pick-up options the most. The bagging option would probably only be used on my first mow of the season if I’m late to getting the cut in. I currently use my bag to chop up leaves and pack them in a little tighter. 

The self-propelled function on electric mowers

This mower also offers the user the ability to control how fast the self-propelled function works. Similar to the SmartCut technology discussed above I imagine if you want to go faster you’ll use the battery much quicker than 60 minutes. I guess that’s the price you pay for not wanting to use gas powered mowers.

Another feature that I found to be beneficial were the headlights – that’d really come in handy during late fall afternoon mows when the sun starts to set early. I also thought the leaf pickup function via the turbo button would be really handy, basically a vacuum for your yard. From what I can gather it turns the blade off and just sucks up the leaves.

Compared to other electric mowers like the Sun Joe, Ryobi, or the Dewalt, this one has a tad more experience.
