The Dewalt 60V MAX string trimmer was delivered to my house a few weeks ago. I tested out this weed eater, putting it through the gauntlet, to see if it was truly worth the hype.
This Dewalt string trimmer review is really part of a broader set of string trimmers that I put to the test to find the best string trimmer on the planet. You can follow along on our YouTube channel, The Lawn Review.
Bottom Line: The Dewalt 60V Max string trimmer was shockingly powerful and felt very “solid”. This one has all the features I recommend in a weed eater. Grab it from Home Depot for a great price.
Dewalt 60V MAX String Trimmer: Testing each feature
I have a process when it comes to reviewing a string trimmer. I always check for power, durability, usability, and battery performance. My methods can be unusual, but I think they give you a good look into what it’s like to use this string trimmer before you buy it.
The Dewalt 60V Max String Trimmer has a powerful cutting swath
Dewalt’s 60V MAX string trimmer has the ability to level up to a 17 inch cutting swath. Folks, the larger the cutting swath, the more powerful a string trimmer is. The normal range for a battery powered weed eater is somewhere around 12-15 inches.
At 17 inches, the Dewalt 60V Max string trimmer is nearly unrivaled. I believe EGO has a string trimmer that can cut this wide but to find that width anywhere else, you would need to check out a gas-powered string trimmer.
One recommendation I have for this Dewalt String Trimmer: replace the string trimmer line right away. I don’t like the rounded, twisty kind that comes with it – I recommend using the GrassKicker weed eater string that we created specifically to replace the stock kind.
Dewalt’s 60V Max string trimmer has a durable brushless motor
One thing I love about the Dewalt products I have reviewed, like the Dewalt 60V blower and Dewalt self-propelled mower, are the fact that they come with brushless motors. Brushless motors are basically newer, higher quality electric motors that use less friction to generate power from the battery.
The Dewalt 60V MAX string trimmer has a brushless motor – meaning it has a longer run time, cooler running motor, and longer life. Dewalt backs this up with a 3 year limited warranty and 90 day money back guarantee. Pretty sweet deal!
The Dewalt 60V trimmer has a ton of convenient features
One of my favorite features of the Dewalt 60V Max string trimmer is that it has universal attachment capabilities. In fact, it is one of my favorite string trimmers with attachments on the market. Universal attachment capabilities mean that you can use any universal attachment from other brands and probably that random one you have sitting in your garage.
Not only does it have attachment capabilities, but this Dewalt 60V string trimmer has a variable speed trigger with two speed settings and a molded rubber grip and D-loop handle. These features make the string trimmer easy to hold for long periods of time. The two different high and low speed setting adjustments can be used to amp up the RPMs on this trimmer, though I would probably never take it off high.
The battery performance is as expected
The 3 Ah battery on this Dewalt 60V Max String Trimmer is pretty good. For a battery-powered tool, you get decent run time – definitely enough to trim a yard that is about a ½ acre on a single charge.
Battery performance on a string trimmer varies wildly because of different thicknesses of grass, starting and stopping, and whether or not you use the trimmer to edge. Under normal circumstances, I think you could use this string trimmer for about 40-45 minutes before the battery dies.
Lastly, this 60v Max battery series from Dewalt has a bunch of other tools you can use with it, including their blowers, chainsaws, and lawn mowers. You can save a ton of money buying the tool-only version of their tools and using one battery.
Final review after personal testing: Dewalt 60V String Trimmer
The Dewalt 60V Max string trimmer is a solid, powerful tool that will absolutely crush grass in your yard. Don’t overlook this string trimmer just because Dewalt is mostly known for their hand tools. I have tested dozens of battery powered string trimmers and this one is up at the top of the list.
My favorite battery powered mower with a metal cutting deck is EGO’s new aluminum deck mower. I’ve used this battery powered mower extensively and it is easily the best value for the money. I also made a full YouTube review video highlighting the top battery mowers here.
Battery-powered mowers with metal cutting decks simply provide too many benefits and have the best comparison to their gas-powered counterparts. I love them for a lot of reasons, which I will get to – and have also used dozens of battery powered mowers. You can grab the number one choice, the Greenworks 80V mower here.
So here are my favorite battery mowers with metal decks:
Alright y’all – let me start with my very top choice. I’ve been reluctant to name this electric mower brand number one because I had an initially rocky experience, but after using dozens of others AFTER this one, it turned out to actually be the best for the price.
1.) EGO 56V LM2200SP 22-Inch Walk Behind Mower
Folks this new mower from EGO – the LM2200SP – is the best electric mower on planet Earth. It is the newest EGO mower and has a nice 22-inch aluminum cutting deck that makes it the most durable EGO mower. The LM2200SP also comes with Touch Drive technology and Select Cut (two blades). Touch Drive technology is simply an easy way to control the speed of the self-propelled mower.
We don’t just sort mowers by the best seller and then regurgitate the specifications to you. We are actually going to break down exactly why this one is our absolute favorite.
If I could draw up the perfect lawn mower in a lab, this one would be darn near close. It has all of my favorite things including:
The only EGO mower with a metal deck – which rockets it up the list in my opinion. Metal decks are way more durable, temperature resistant, and provide a little more weight to keep the mower balanced.
Of course it has the brushless motor and 56V battery system with a massive 10 Ah battery
Easy push button start that gets you going
Folds in half for storing in the winter or tight spaces around the garage or shed
A top run time at over an hour! (70 minutes)
More powerful than the average gas push mower at 11.1 lbs of torque
This mower is incredible and easily gives any mower – gas or electric – a run for their money. You can check the price here on Amazon.
2.) Greenworks Pro 80V Brushless Electric Mower
I love the Greenworks Pro 80V electric mower, although I didn’t always. The first one I purchased had some sort of error that made it difficult to learn. But I swapped it out and had a great experience with the replacement.
Greenworks makes this mower with a nice 21 inch steel cutting deck that looks and feels like a gas-powered push mower. A few other things I like about this mower:
A really nice dashboard that shows you battery life and allows you to toggle the speed of the self-propelled function
A brushless motor
It also has a turbo button that allows you to amp up the power (literally) to take on thicker grass
Great battery life
An 80V battery lineup that can also accommodate their 80V blower
This one has really grown one me, to the point of it being my go-to every weekend mower. Yeah, that’s right. I own 11 push mowers and this is the one I grab every time.
You can grab yours on Amazon for a great price or get it at your local Costco if you’re a member.
3) Milwaukee M18 Battery Powered Mower
Honestly, the Milwaukee M18 mower is the best battery powered lawn mower I’ve ever used.
It has everything I look for in a mower: a steel deck, really great battery life, batteries that can be used across hundreds of tools, supreme power, and all the bells and whistles. I got to use it extensively when I did a full review of it on Youtube.
My favorite thing about this mower is that it is built solid as a rock. It is heavier than most electric mowers on the market, which I actually like. Some of the lighter electric mowers have a propensity to bounce around with every little divot in the grass. With the M18, you will have an experience extremely similar to a gas powered mower.
You’re probably wondering, “If he is so obsessed with this mower, then why is it not number one?”. And that would be a great question.
The only – and I mean ONLY – downside to the Milwaukee M18 mower is that it has a hefty price tag. If you don’t own the batteries already then you can expect to pay well over a grand for this bad boy.
But my favorite part is that it comes with two massive 12 Ah batteries. This gives you an absurd amount of run time. I’m talking well over an hour of run time.
Where most mowers fall short and die after about 30-45 mins, this one will lap them completely and get you on to your next task faster. The mower is dang sweet and comes in at a reasonable price point if you grab it at Home Depot online.
5.) Toro Recycler SmartStow Battery Mower
Toro’s 60V Recycler Mower has a lot of really great bells and whistles. Frankly, it has all the features I would want in a battery powered mower. It has:
A steel deck
A nice 6 Ah battery
This cool function that pulls air up so you can cut the grass better
Patented LawnVitamins mulching system
Personal Pace technology, which adjusts the speed of the mower on your ability to push the mower
But it also has a few downsides. For example, Toro doesn’t have a huge selection of battery tools. That means you don’t get the upside of buying a battery kit and using it across power tools and outdoor power equipment.
I also felt like some of the features of this mower were a bit gimmicky. The “Vortex” air flow technology doesn’t really seem to do anything. The Personal Pace feature was kind of annoying and unsettling, and the batteries took FOREVER to charge.
This is a good option if you already own a Toro battery or are for some reason a Toro loyalist. Otherwise, there’s a reason it is number five on this list.
My experience with battery powered mowers with metal decks
When it comes to evaluating battery powered mowers, I’m VERY seasoned. For starters, I filmed a Youtube video of me testing out five of the most popular in a head-to-head matchup. On top of that, I’ve done countless other Youtube reviews of battery mowers.
Given all this personal experience with electric mowers, I feel pretty confident that I can tell you exactly what you should be looking for in an electric mower. And most importantly – what to avoid. There is a lot of garbage and marketing gimmicks out there, so let me break down for you exactly what to look for.
What I look for in battery powered mowers
If you’re looking for a new battery powered mower (which you are), you need to make sure you understand what things matter. You will get hit with a lot of technical specifications and people throwing acronyms at you. If you’re like me, you will tune them out.
Below are my recommendations:
Battery-powered mower brand quality
Quality is going to be super important here. Just about everyone is in the electric mower game these days and there are a ton of junky mowers out there. Avoid anything from a weird brand on Amazon that takes 9 years to ship. It is probably being 3D printed in a Laotian bathroom. Go for brands that have consistent quality and focus on the details, not just flashy colors.
Some brands I trust off the top of my head are: Greenworks, Milwaukee, Makita, Toro, EGO, and Kobalt. SOME Ryobi mowers, although myself and others have had some problems with reliability. Brand quality matters, but it’s also important to look at the specs on each.
Metal where it matters: the deck
Most electric mowers are plastic-y. Probably to reduce the weight of the mower so that the battery can get you further, but it feels cheap. Make sure to get metal where it matters – namely the deck. The deck is the part that covers the blades. Don’t get plastic here – a rock can rip through it.
Battery interoperability.
A ten dollar word used here, but really just make sure to buy a mower with a battery that is compatible with other electric tools. You’ll see a bunch of these brands that have battery lines that work with a ton of tools. Milwaukee, Makita, and Dewalt are all great options because you can use them for all lawn tools AND power tools – saving you a ton of money on extra batteries.
Self-propelled mowers are lawn mowers that slowly crawl forward when mowing the lawn. They propel forward the mower, taking off a lot of the “pushing power” required by traditional push mowers.
Self-propelled mowers are ALWAYS more expensive because they have the additional power and functionality that makes life easier. They have their place, but because of the cost can often seem not totally worth it.
Why we started The Lawn Review
The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! After hours and hours of research, trying products and returning them, and messing up our yards – we started this site.
As people who had to learn the hard way, we want you to know exactly what you are signing up for before you purchase a piece of equipment. That’s why we are committed to providing honest, easy-to-understand reviews that mean something.
The Toro Recycler SmartStow is the best lawn mower for Bermudagrass because it has super adjustable cutting heights that let you cut bermudagrass down to its appropriate low height plus a super wide deck.
Personally, I hate Bermuda grass. I have some nice tall fescue and live in a transitional zone. My neighbor has Bermuda so that they can be “different”. Okay.
Anyways, I consider Bermuda grass a weed. But my friends just south of me and one of my The Lawn Review colleagues live in Texas – which is home to a lot of Bermuda. And he gave me his list of the best mowers for Bermuda grass.
So, let’s add some background on why this is important and get right to it.
As you can see – with Bermuda grass, you have to be a little bit more selective about what you want in a mower. This is exactly why we spent dozens of hours researching and testing the mowers that are going to be super tailored to Bermuda lawns. Let’s check it out.
Toro Recycler SmartStow 22 inch Battery Powered Mower
We ranked the Toro Recycler SmartStow 22 inch battery powered mower as the best mower for Bermuda grass for a few reasons. First of all, Toro is a well-known name that makes some freakishly popular and powerful mowers.
But there are many more reasons than just the fancy name. As we referenced earlier in this article, this one has everything you could want in a mower for bermudagrass. Like these key features:
I like that it is battery powered because you won’t have to run to get gas if you are mowing more than once per week.
It can cut between 1 to 4 inches, getting you great results for your 1.5 inch bermuda grass
Toro created this airflow technology that pulls the air up on grass, allowing it to be more evenly cut – this mower has that.
It stores super easily, folding in half and being placed in a tight spot in the garage to get you through the dead season of bermudagrass, which seems to last forever
Toro nailed it with this mower. You know they had bermuda grass folks in mind when they created it – which makes sense given how popular these are in the South.
It’s a freak of nature. And we also love that it is the only mower that Milwaukee makes. We frequently joke that they just decided to put all their chips on this hand and walked away from the table a winner.
The Milwaukee M18 Fuel mower is great for Bermuda grass and has a lot of the same features as the Toro one above, but also costs about twice as much. It has bagged discharge capabilities, 1 to 4 inch height adjustment (that is single point, by the way), a wonderful self-propelled function, an extremely efficient brushless motor that accelerates faster than any other mower, and more torque than most gas mowers.
Yes, it is the cream of the crop and the perfect mower for any of you that already own an M18 battery-powered tool.
This one is quite expensive though. Milwaukee is definitely a premium brand and hands down has the best mower on this list – but the price is steep.
The Dewalt 20V Max mower is one that definitely surprised me. I know Dewalt has been in the power tool business for a long, long time, but are relatively new to the lawn tool space.
The reason this one isn’t higher up on the list is that Dewalt simply doesn’t have a massive line of lawn tools. They have this 20V brand but also have a 60V line. So you don’t get the same efficiency and battery savings that you do with other brands like Ryobi.
21.5 inch deck gives you a little more width for cutting Bermuda grass
10 Ah batteries – which is INSANELY high
Self-propelled function
1.5-4 inch cutting heights – so you’ll have to drop it way down for Bermuda
Sweet metal cutting deck
Reasonable price – even better if you already have a dewalt 20V Max battery
This really is a great mower, with one of the main downsides being that it’s really hard to find replacement blades because of the unique size. If they get dull, you can sharpen your mower blades instead of buying a new one.
Some of you are getting super mad right now because I haven’t featured any gas-powered mowers….until now!
The Toro TimeMaster 30 is the Ray Lewis of mowers. It’s absolutely massive and packs a ridiculous punch. Yes – the 30 in TimeMaster 30 is how many inches wide it is. And if you’re thinking that the width is like a riding mower, then you’d be exactly right. It’s extremely wide.
The TimeMaster is a gas-powered masterpiece that’s amazing for Bermuda lawns. The cut height ranges from 1.25 to 4.25 inches and everything in between. This level of detail is unmatched. Here are some other bells and whistles on the TimeMaster that truly set it apart.
223 CC Engine
Self-propel function with traction assist
Spin-Stop function that means you can deactivate the blades but keep the engine running. Great if you have to move a rock out of the way without having to stop and restart the mower.
Two side-by-side cutting blades
A cool deck wash port that allows you to connect your hose to a tube and it will clean out the deck.
The only downside to this mower is the price. It is the Cadillac of push mowers which means it carries a Cadillac price tag. It does occasionally go on sale so you can check the price here at Home Depot.
EGO Power+ LM2021 Mower
I had to put this EGO mower in here in the ranking of great mowers for Bermuda because we just love EGO products. And we recommend this mower the most because it has a steel cutting deck whereas most other EGO mowers don’t.
We like this EGO mower for bermuda because it is a great battery-powered lawn system that can be used all across your bermuda lawn. From EGO’s weed eaters to their super powerful blowers, you’ll be covered once you get into this system.
It’s also got a great run-time and charges quickly, so you can mow a larger area and do it more often without worrying about trips to the gas station. Great for bermuda grass.
It’s not hard to find a good mower for Bermudagrass – but since you are going to be mowing more often than most folks, want to collect grass clippings, and need a short cut, there are some mowers that are just flat out more suited for you.
The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! Why is Bermuda grass different for mowing?
Truth is, you can roll any old mower out there and it will get the job done. But if you want not only good-looking green grass but HEALTHY green Bermuda grass, then you should be careful how you cut it. Here’s what to look for:
Flexibility with cutting heights
Bermuda needs to be cut at a height of 1 to 1.5 inches. That’s short. For example, I cut my fescue lawn at about 3 inches. You’ll want to grab a mower that can cut that low but also has more intervals between 0-2 inches that let you customize it based on your needs. Getting a mower that has wide intervals may not allow you to mow with any real sensitivity.
Bagging capabilities
Most of the time, I don’t recommend bagging your grass while mowing. I let the clippings fall into the yard and provide nutrients to the soil. Bermudagrass grows like a weed (and I consider it one), meaning it grows really quickly. If you aren’t bagging the clippings, you’ll find that fungus will begin to thrive in your lawn.
A wider deck
Bermuda grass grows really quickly. My neighbor is out there about 1.5x a week mowing his lawn (conveniently when my daughter is trying to take a nap). If you have a small mower, say 16-18 inches, then you are going to be out there making a LOT of passes. Getting a mower with a slightly wider deck will help make you a lot more efficient while mowing.
The best Dewalt air compressor is the Dewalt 6 gallon pancake compressor. Air compressors are versatile tools you can use for much more than inflating tires and spray painting.
Air compressors come in all shapes and sizes (believe it or not), and there are hundreds of brands to choose from. If you’ve already started shopping for an air compressor, you’re probably overwhelmed with endless options that all look and sound the same.
I’ll walk you through my findings today and let you know about my experiences with Dewalt and air compressors.
If you work at different job sites or don’t have easy access to an electrical outlet, a portable air compressor might be a suitable option for you. Take a look at the best Dewalt portable air compressor and the runner-up.
My neighbor is a general contractor and I got the idea for this article from him. He bounces from house to house in the same subdivision and helps the team out with whatever they need. He often grabs his Dewalt portable air compressor to contribute wherever he can.
Dewalt 15 Gallon Portable Electric Air Compressor
The Dewalt 15 Gallon Portable Air Compressor is a solid choice if you want an easy-to-use compressor for nailing, drilling, and landscaping work. It’s also a great choice if you need to use the compressor on the go that can actually provide some serious power.
This portable compressor is also completely oil-free and exceptionally quiet when compared to other air compressors. The device has a maximum power of 0.2 horsepower and an airflow capacity of 5.4 cubic feet per minute. Translating that into what normal people talk about, this is way less powerful than a stationary air compressor but will still be able to power all of your tools.
What I like about this Dewalt air compressor:
Oil and maintenance-free pump
78 dB sound level which is loud but not ear-crushing
The wheels are big enough to run over anything lying around your garage or job site
Great air-tool runtimes
This one is big for a portable air compressor and weighs about 120 lbs. But it can provide solid power and a surprising amount of air. You can grab this one at Home Depot or get it delivered straight from Amazon for a great price.
Runner-up: Dewalt 4.5 Gallon Portable Electric Air Compressor
The Dewalt 4.5 Gallon Portable Air Compressor is a good option if you want something smaller. I like to describe this compressor as the miniature version of the 15-gallon alternative. It has many of the same features at a lower capacity. For instance, the air compressor reaches a maximum horsepower of 1.6 HP and has an airflow capacity of five cubic feet per minute. It only weighs 80 pounds and features 10-inch non-flat foam tires that make it ultra-portable.
This one is really nice for dragging around with your nailer. This has more horsepower than our favorite, but honestly horsepower doesn’t mean that much with air compressors as one can be more powerful and efficient while having less horsepower.
You can save money by buying an air compressor with a nail gun. Dewalt sells two air compressor combos for a reasonable price.
Dewalt 6 Gallon 18-Gauge Brad Nailer and Pancake Electric Air Compressor Combo Kit
Have your (pan)cake and eat it, too, with the 6 Gallon 18-Gauge Brad Nailer and Pancake Electric Air Compressor Kit by Dewalt. This duo gives you the ammo to take on the toughest projects with 5.0 SCFM at 90 PSI and 80% more usable air than competing brands.
The pneumatic nailer boasts a maintenance-free motor and a jam-release tool that makes it easy to release nails. I love this combination because most DIY folks are looking for a set of both of these. It’s a big deal that Dewalt makes great nailers AND great air compressors. Why not knock out both in one purchase?
The perks:
1/4 in. x 50 ft. PVC hose
Compatible with traditional 18 ga. Brad nails that range from 5/8 to 2 1/8 in. in length
Features Precision Point Technology which means your nail placement is much more exact and doesn’t require actuation
Runner-up: Dewalt Nailer and 120 PSI Compressor Combo Kit
Dewalt sells another compressor and Brad nailer combo kit with 120 PSI instead of 165. Since this is an older model of the combo kit, you can find it used or new on eBay and similar websites for slightly less than the 165 PSI option.
The kit features a pancake air compressor with a nine-gallon tank capacity and 9 HP. It weighs just over 40 pounds and is easy to take with you when you’re on the go. The air compressor comes with a 25-foot air hose that’s 1/4 in thick. Like the 165 PSI model, the 120 PSI alternative is quiet with 75.5 dBA.
The highlights:
75.5 dBA noise level
It comes with two universal couplers
Compatible with standard 18 Ga. Brad nails
Features Precision Point Technology as well which allows you to be more exact when placing the nails and not losing your spot due to actuating the tip
Vertical air compressors have a portable design that doesn’t hinder their performance. If you’re looking for the best vertical air compressor, consider these two options by Dewalt.
We like vertical air compressors because they take up less floor space
Dewalt 27 Gallon 200 PSI Portable Vertical Electric Air Compressor
The Dewalt 27 Gallon Portable Vertical Electric Air Compressor means business. This device features 5.1 SCFM at 90 PSI, making it extremely powerful, but also can taper down the PSI to accommodate things like spray painting.
It also has a high-flow regulator that allows the tool to intake air extremely efficiently. The air compressor is oil-free and has a low-volt, quick-start motor compatible with extension cords between 12 and 50 ft. There’s also a dual-purpose handle that makes it easy to move around while acting as a hose wrap as well.
What stands out:
78 dBA for a quiet work environment
Easily handles large projects without issues
There’s a two-inch display surface that is easy to read
This one is a great vertical air compressor that can take your garage to new heights. Grab it on Amazon for a good price.
The Bottom Line on Dewalt Air Compressors
Whether you need an air compressor for inflating tires, operating your nailer, or spray painting your car, you can’t go wrong with a Dewalt product. Dewalt’s air compressors have a great reputation for their durability, ease of use, and competitive prices.
All Dewalt products come with a warranty, so if there’s ever an issue with your air compressor, Dewalt will take care of it.
Why we review lawn tools

About Dewalt tools
Dewalt makes a crazy amount of products. We all know and recognize their power tool collection as one of the best. But what has been really growing for them is their lawn tool collection. We’ve been super impressed by Dewalt’s weed eaters, their line of Dewalt blowers, and even the Dewalt 20V lawn mower.
And now one of my personal favorite air compressor brands is Dewalt. Based out of Maryland, Dewalt is a global manufacturer of professional workhouse solutions. When it comes to air compressors, Dewalt produces some of the most reliable products on the market but also a TON of varieties. I scoured the web to identify the best Dewalt air compressors in three categories: portable, combo, and vertical.
The best Dewalt String Trimmer is the Dewalt 20V Max brushless weed eater because it is a part of a large battery 20V battery system, has a brushless motor, and is relatively inexpensive.
But before you make a decision to pull the trigger on a Dewalt String Trimmer, make sure you understand exactly what you’re looking for and which Dewalt string trimmer is right for you and your job.
Jump ahead to the best DewaltString TrimmersRanking:
When looking at the Dewalt weed eaters, I’m taking a few things into consideration. The true balance to finding the right string trimmer is assessing the price vs the usability and power. Of course you want the one that feels the easiest to use, has all the bells and whistles, and has extreme power. But not everyone can afford that. So here is how we approach it through the lens of value.
1.) Dewalt 20V Max Brushless Cordless String Trimmer Kit
We put this one at number one because it has all the bells and whistles and is extremely price competitive. It isn’t perfect. I wish it was a tad longer and had a little bit bigger cutting swath, but otherwise it’s darn near perfect. As part of Dewalt’s 20V Max series of tools, you can use the same battery you use for your power drill on this weed eater. Which means you can buy this version tool-only. Tool-only means that it doesn’t come with a battery, which saves you about $60 on the purchase price. Cha-ching.
To us, this one is the most valuable Dewalt string trimmer money can buy.
2.) Dewalt 60V Max Brushless Attachment Capable String Trimmer Kit
If the number one result is the most valuable Dewalt weed eater, then this one is the most versatile. We’ve reviewed quite a few attachment capable string trimmer kits and really loved the EGO Multi-Head, but this one is giving it a run for the money. It even made our list of the weed eaters with attachments.
The 60V Max Brushless attachment capable weed eater from Dewalt brought out ALL the bells and whistles when they made this one. When you buy this, you also have the ability to buy attachments like: a blower, pole saw, hedge trimmer, edger, and a brush cutter. So basically this has swiss army knife potential. That’s what I’m talking about.
But don’t let the cool attachments overshadow just how sweet the weed eater is. The weed eater alone is an absolute unit and even touts itself as being better than some of the popular EGO weed eaters.
Here’s their evidence for making such a bold claim:
Brushless motor (EGO has this, too)
Up to 17 inch cutting swath (EGO’s is 15)
12.8 lbs with the battery (EGO’s is 14.1)
Ability to add universal attachments, which allow you to use attachments from several other brands (EGO’s are custom fit to their tools)
The Dewalt 60V Max attachment capable weed eater is a dream. If you are a Dewalt loyalist, this tool is peak perfection – especially if you already own the battery.
3.) Dewalt 60V Max Brushless Cordless String Trimmer
This 60V Max weed eater from Dewalt is really similar to the one above, but doesn’t come with the attachment capabilities. If you’re looking for JUST a baller weed eater, then this one is a great option.
This Dewalt weed eater is an amped up version of our number one choice. But here’s the crazy thing: it can be backwards-compatible with the 20V Max series of batteries. This is a crazy tech capability because the 20V Max series of batteries are much more popular.
Think about it: if you have 60V Max batteries already or are building out your lawn tool collection around the 60V Max series, then this is a great investment because you can use the same batteries across all the tools. But what if you already own a Dewalt power drill with a 20V Max battery? Well….you’re still in luck because this weed eater can take those batteries as well.
Dewalt really thought through their customer base and how they can best provide solutions that meet their needs. The reverse compatibility is a huge advancement for saving them money and basically making it universally compatible with Dewalt’s entire line of products.
This one also has all the must-haves: variable speed trigger, brushless motor, straight shaft, decent length, and a 15 inch cutting swath. This Dewalt weed eater is SWEET.
4.) Dewalt 27 cc 2-Stroke Straight Gas String Trimmer
Dewalt is not known for their gas-powered tools and definitely lesser known in the lawn space. So this one seems risky. But the specifications on it are all extremely positive.
27 cc 2-cycle engine is more than ECHO’s and right in line with Stihl’s
A massive 17 inch cutting swath is best-in-class for gas weed eaters
It is attachment-capable, which is a huge money saver
It comes with a shoulder strap for saving your back
Dewalt really did a great job thinking through this product and designing it for homeowners with big yards and even for commercial use. It’s a dang beast.
One complaint I have is that the shaft length is a little on the shorter side for me. Otherwise this thing is sweet.
What really sells this one for me is that it has a 3 year limited warranty. A lot of these weed eaters have different warranties for commercial or residential use. Dewalt went all out with the 3 year warranty, which I appreciate since they aren’t well known in this space.
This one is available at Home Depot for a REALLY good price. Like a shockingly good price. We don’t get any benefit when you buy from them, but I think this is the place to get it.
5.) Dewalt 20V Max Trimmer Blower Combo Kit
We’ve written extensively about some of the trimmer blower combo kits that can save you a ton of money. Dewalt made the list. Now I know this is kind of cheating to have a combo kit on here, but it should be a part of the consideration process if you are in the market for a new battery-powered line of tools.
That’s what I love about battery powered lawn tools – you buy a kit like this one and you only have to buy one battery. That saves generally about $50-100 depending on the brand. That’s the way to go.
This features a 20V string trimmer similar to our number one option and a really great 20V Dewalt leaf blower that has made our top Dewalt blower list.
The package together doesn’t fall squarely in this article, but I want to make sure you all understand how great of a deal it is if you’re considering joining the Dewalt family.
Best Weed Eater String / String Trimmer Line for Dewalt
Most of these Dewalt weed eaters come standard with a 0.80” weed eater string. It’s fine and all, but I totally leveled up my weed eater when I moved to the GrassKicker weed eater string.
Yes, we developed it because we got tired of buying weed eater string that broke or didn’t give our yard the look we wanted. And we were shocked at the difference it made.
Our GrassKicker weed eater string fits into every Dewalt weed eater and will make a noticeable difference in the cut. It basically replaced my edger altogether and lasts WAY longer than the stock weed eater string.
Final thoughts: Dewalt’s weed eater collection
While they aren’t a household name (yet), Dewalt is moving into the game with some great products. You can’t go wrong with any of these, it really comes down to how big of a job you have in front of you.
All of these have a great warranty and most of the battery-powered tools will work – as long as you stay in the MAX series of batteries.
Why we review string trimmers
The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! After hours and hours of research, trying products and returning them, and messing up our yards – we started this site.
As people who had to learn the hard way, we want you to know exactly what you are signing up for before you purchase a piece of equipment. That’s why we are committed to providing honest, easy-to-understand reviews that mean something.
What to look for in a weed eater
Weed eaters AKA string trimmers come in all shapes and sizes. They aren’t highly complicated pieces of equipment, but they do have a few nuances. Here is how I see it:
Feel
Obviously this is subjective, but feel is everything to me. I have had weed eaters in the past where the handle is off to the side, making me torque my shoulders and back. If you can, get as many adjustable pieces as possible to make this customizable. It doesn’t seem like you use a weed eater for a long time, but the work is precision work that requires a steady hand and focus.
Motor
Brushless motors are a non-negotiable when it comes to battery powered weed eaters. Without a doubt, they are the best option to ensure you have maximum torque, more durability, and a longer life. These things are top notch performance and will be the only option when others start to catch on.
Curved vs Straight shaft
I always, always, always prefer straight shafts. They are so much easier to use and control and are much longer than curved shafts. Curved shafts are good for clearing out a small piece of land unable to be mowed. But if you want to actually do some good trimming and edging, a straight shaft is much better. Curved shafts are difficult to maneuver and to create a straight line for edging.
Dewalt leaf blowers are a household name. Not only do most people own a bunch of Dewalt products already, but they have really stepped up their game lately.
**SPOILER** Best Dewalt Leaf Blower: Dewalt 20V Max Leaf Blower because it has great strength for around the house, a super versatile battery system, and is extremely comfortable.
But they’ve started diversifying their product suite and have a ton of new blowers.
Fortunately, we had the pleasure of using some of these suckers (or blowers) and have put out our definitive ranking guide.
So, let’s get started.
The official Dewalt Leaf Blower ranking
Now that you’re up to speed on leaf blower terminology, let’s move forward with ranking the best Dewalt leaf Blowers on planet Earth.
The Dewalt Flexvolt 60V MAX handheld blower is pretty sweet. One of my favorite things about this blower is that it puts out a deceivingly-high 423 CFM of air with speeds up to 129 MPH. But wait, there’s more!
It also comes with a flat concentrator nozzle that can increase air speeds up to 175 MPH. That is freaking fast.
This blower comes with a nice brushless motor as well, making it darn near perfect. My only complaint is that most folks looking for a blower are looking for one that is going to push leaves like a dang cannon. This one is more of a sniper, good for wet leaves and smaller areas.
2. DEWALT 60V MAX FLEXVOLT Leaf Blower 125-MPH, 600-CFM
What the previous Dewalt blower lacks, this one totally makes up for. This 60V Max Flexvolt Dewalt blower has 600 CFM – which basically means it is a cannon of air. CFMs this high are pretty rare on electric leaf blowers.
This blower again has a nice brushless motor, a grip that resembles your electric power drill, a variable speed trigger, and a speed lock. I like the speed lock function here because sometimes I want to do mid-speed and my finger cramps holding it at the exact speed I want (first world problems).
All-in-all, this is a great blower from Dewalt and comes in at just over 9lbs. Comparing this one to the one before, they are both 60V blowers but have different purposes. This one is for pushing big piles of leaves and the other is for smaller spaces and wetter leaves. They are both great blowers, but really fit two different demographics.
The Dewalt 20V Max leaf blower is really good and an amazing price. I wrote about this specific leaf blower once before, but they’ve made some major improvements.
The first major improvement they’ve made is a nice removable concentrator tip. With this blower, you get the best of both worlds. You have the ability to snipe wet leaves or clean off your porch as needed, with the added ability to remove the concentrator and use the wider mouth for shoving big piles of leaves.
This one has all the great things – a brushless motor, a nice variable speed trigger with a lock, and it’s about half the weight of the blower above – just over 5 lbs.
Holy cow. This one is also relatively quiet (about as much noise as a blender) and is the most affordable of the three.
In my opinion, this is hands-down the best Dewalt blower on the market. The best part is that the 20V battery on this one is one of their most popular battery lines and is what the power drill uses (among hundreds of other tools).
The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! Cordless blowers come in a bunch of shapes and sizes but there are three basic things you need to understand:
CFM – Cubic feet per minute. This is a measure of air output on the blower. Higher CFM = more power, but not necessarily more miles per hour. High CFM with a wide nozzle = lower MPH. High CFM with a narrow nozzle = high miles per hour. Ideally, you want both a high CFM with a narrow to medium nozzle for most residential jobs. CFM and MPH are interrelated on blowers.
Usability – what is the point of having a blower if it is hard to use? Have to get one that is lightweight, easy to start, and has some functions that make your life easier.
Motor type – brushless motors reign supreme. Cooler running motors with more torque, a longer run-time, and last many more years. Brushless is a no brainer when picking a blower.
These are three things you need to pay attention to when looking through the specifications.
The best battery powered lawn edger is the Greenworks Pro 80V lawn edger because it is super easy to use and comes with a great battery system from Greenworks.
We constantly get compliments about having the best grass in the neighborhood. But honestly, our grass itself looks just like each of our neighbors. So what’s the difference?
Clean, crisp borders around the yard separating the driveway and walkway from the grass. It is a small, subtle change but makes all the difference. Think about it like framing your yard. Imagine the Mona Lisa without a frame. It would look like something your kid would bring home to hang on the fridge (maybe a little better).
The new battery lawn edgers are awesome. So let’s check out which ones are the absolute best.
Bottom line – Here is our ranking of the best battery lawn edgers:
Let’s get started! There are some great brands here, but a few that really stick out for their power, reliability, and price.
5. DEWALT DCED472X1 Edger
Dewalt is a household name, but not necessarily for lawn tools. Mostly known for their power drills, saws, and other contractor-grade equipment, Dewalt is a well-trusted and well-known brand.
Recently, they’ve dug into lawn tools and have put out some surprisingly high-quality, competitive stuff.
Their edger is actually pretty sweet. One of my favorite things about it is the squeeze trigger, which is way more comfortable on the hand and also provides a bit of a safety to prevent kids from using it.
The edger is really an attachment on their multi-tool, which has a bunch of different heads that give you a full toolkit to craft your yard around.
This one was designed by pros, as it has a gentle slope going into the edger to ensure that it is flush with the surface and providing a deep, clean cut.
The Dewalt battery lawn edger is on sale on Amazon right now and is normally a steep price, but also includes the head that can attach a ton of other tools.
4. Kobalt 80-Volt Max 8-in Cordless Electric Lawn Edger
Kobalt is one of those brands that was exclusively sold in Lowe’s stores across the country, then randomly showed up online and did really well. Kobalt has some high quality products and are a personal favorite of ours in the aesthetics department. They have a nice navy blue and black combo that is sleek and not some fluorescent color.
Kobalt’s 80V Max series is a great series to build a battery powered tool set around. They have an awesome mower and a bunch of really good blowers.
One of my favorite things about this edger is that it is LONG, which I like for surgical precision when edging. It also has a nice brushless motor, which means more torque, a cooler motor, and longer life.
This one is for sale at Lowe’s – the perfect buy if you already own a Kobalt 80V Max battery.
3. EGO Power+ ME0800 8-Inch Edger Attachment & Power Head
EGO has great products, hands down. The power head is one of, if not the absolute best, top power heads on the market. Super versatile, reliable, and powerful. The EGO power head is a dang steal.
I like EGO Power+ products because they all use the 56V battery, from the lawn mower to the blower to the edger.
There isn’t anything particularly special or snazzy about this product, but it is one that I know and trust to do the job without fail. Driving around your neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon, I bet you’ll see one of these hanging in your neighbor’s garage. It will still be there in 5 years. Good stuff.
Greenworks is one of our favorites brands – they have great products that are durable and reliable.
Their 40V series is awesome and can be used with over 60 tools. It is a great battery line to go with if you are looking to build out your lawn tool kit around a single battery.
The 40V edger they have is great. It has all the necessary ingredients for a great edger and similar to the EGO, comes with the power head that can be used with a bunch of different attachments.
I ranked this one number two because it has the brushless motor (which is great) down at the bottom of the tool, where it is vulnerable to hitting pavement and breaking. Otherwise, this battery lawn edger is great.
It comes with a ton of reviews and a great price on Amazon, where you can also get the multi tool power head.
1. Greenworks Pro 80V 8 inch Brushless Edger
Greenworks’ Pro 80V battery line is the supreme battery-powered lawn tool line. They have an amazing 80V mower, incredibly powerful blowers, and this awesome edger.
This battery lawn edger is a dedicated edger – not part of a system of interchangeable parts. And it means business.
It has all the things you look for in an edger. Amazing battery system, easy to use handle, 4 year warranty, adjustable handle, brushless motor – the works.
The battery system here allows it to run for over 80 minutes, which is way more than you would ever need but speaks to the power of the 80V battery.
Coming in at about 17lbs, it’s surprisingly light and usable considering how long it is and how much power it puts out.
The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! What’s the difference between trimming and edging?
Let’s set the record straight here. Edging and trimming are two very different things that are often mixed up.
Edging utilizes a motorized blade that digs into the dirt between a hard surface (street, driveway, sidewalk) and your yard. Edgers push up dirt and dig a small little trench that cleanly separates the yard and surface. Edgers can do a little bit of trimming if grass is growing over the surface, but are not designed for full-scale grass shredding.
Trimmers are used to cut stray grass not reached or not accessible by mowing. Trimmers can also be used to cut the grass between hard surfaces and the yard, but don’t quite have the capability to edge as well as an edger does.
Is it worth buying a battery lawn edger?
In my opinion, absolutely. Most trimmers now come with detachable heads that allow for an edger to pop right on. Edgers are what take your yard from good to great.
Can you edge with a trimmer? Can you trim with an edger?
If you are an absolute pro and have a high-powered trimmer, you can do some mild edging with a trimmer. If you use the GrassKicker weed eater string, you can get a really, really good edging job even with a weaker weed eater. Check it out below.
You still will not be able to dig way down deep to cause the best separation from surfaces, but it will give a similar appearance for a shorter amount of time.
You cannot trim with an edger unfortunately. The blade is just too big to finely cut small fragments of grass.
The best cordless trimmer and blower combinations are the ones that work together like MJ and Pippen. My favorite is the Greenworks 40V string trimmer and blower combo because it has a great battery system, brushless motor, and is very inexpensive.
Here’s a scenario. You just mow your lawn with one of our top-ranked electric mowers. You pop the battery off, and get to trimming around your driveway and garden beds with the trimmer, then quickly pop the battery onto your blower and finish the job.
This is the dream scenario – efficient, seamless, emission free, and easy. While many of these tools can be bought directly from the manufacturer, Home Depot, or Lowes – we have found Amazon has them bundled into easy to assemble and low-cost kits. The trimmer and blower combinations listed below are going to get you there.
Craftsman provides some great household tools, from air pressurizers to vacuums. Craftsman does a great job in their V20 series by providing a pair of tools that help roll-up your garage into a convenient and easy-to-use kit.
Let’s start with the Craftsman V20 string trimmer. The string trimmer has an automatic line advancement, meaning you won’t have to constantly stop to lengthen the string in the trimmer when it runs low. The trimmer can also function as an edging tool, providing even more versatility to the overall combo kit.
The blower is also perfect for homeowners doing smaller jobs. A 350 CFM, 100 MPH blower has variable speed controlled by a trigger to match the size of the job. While this isn’t the most powerful blower on the market, it is definitely enough power to clear out your garage, patio, deck, or driveway.
This product comes in at a great price and is actually listed as “Amazon’s Choice” for string trimmer and blower combo kits. You can find it on Amazon for a DEAL. Grab it today to take on any job around your home.
This one is super popular – and for good reason. The price on this blower combo kit is nearly impossible to beat.
One thing I love about both of these tools is that it takes Black and Decker’s super popular 20V max battery. For example, I have this battery and use it on my power drill. I could easily take it off of that and pop it onto the blower or trimmer.
While the trimmer here is pretty basic, it is going to be just fine for small yards. If you live in a townhome or otherwise have a tiny yard, this is all you will need.
The blower will leave a lot to be desired from a power perspective. It is super small and has an even smaller opening. BUT – this may be all you need if you have a small yard. And as a positive, it is super quiet. Like eerily quiet.
You can buy this for right a super low price on Amazon, where it has almost 7,500 reviews (averaging 4.5 stars).
5. Dewalt String Trimmer, DCST925 and DCBL720 Combo Kit (DCKO975M1)
While Dewalt isn’t recognized as much as some of the others for breadth of lawn equipment, they definitely have a solid core product line. We have reviewed their battery-powered mower in addition to the blower featured in this combo kit.
To summarize, the blower is pretty good but not great. It has a wide opening, which allows for a large jet stream of air, but the speed of the air isn’t as high as I would like. We review the whole thing in this blower review.
The string trimmer looks really sweet. In particular, we really like the squeeze handles at the top. Many manufacturers have normal triggers, but the squeeze triggers are so much easier to use and don’t cramp up your hands.
This kit is great, but is a little on the pricier side. You can grab this kit on Amazon for cheap or so, depending on where you grab it. Check it out on Amazon to see where the best deal is today.
4. WORX WG928 GT 3.0 Grass Turbine 2 20V Batt/Charger Included String Trimmer Blower Combo Kit, Black and Orange
Well, that’s a mouthful but I wanted to make sure you knew which one I was talking about if you are perusing the online stores.
Here’s the thing I love about WORX. They have some great trimmers that double as edgers (see our GT Revolution review here). The trimmer listed here looks like it could double as an edger as well, has an intuitive, adjustable handle, and (my favorite) a battery that goes underneath the handle. The GT 3.0 trimmer is great trimmer aside from this combination kit.
The blower is okay. Probably on the lower end as far as speed goes. But that’s alright – you don’t need a ton of power unless you have a large yard or are working with wet leaves/grass. Remember to mow while it is dry and you will be fine.
Buy this trimmer and blower combination set on Amazon (currently on sale). This is a good deal – and people love this combo set. It has almost 17,000 reviews – by far the most of any of the combo kits out there.
3. EGO Power+ ST1502LB 15-Inch String Trimmer & 530CFM Blower Combo Kit with 2.5Ah Battery and Charger Included, Blower & Trimmer, Black
Why can’t they just name these products something simple? Like “EGO Combo kit” or something?
Anyways, this is one of the more impressive combo kits on the market. EGO has great stuff, but they tend to be pretty expensive. This combo kit is no exception.
The blower is a beast at 530 CFMs, which means it is probably blowing air well north of 100mph (not listed in the specs). It also has a brushless motor, which means it is built to last. You can’t get much higher quality than this EGO blower.
The trimmer looks pretty standard – it is definitely bigger than most of the other trimmers on this list at 15 inches. Both of these products take a 56V battery – which can be used with a bunch of their other products.
As far as combos go, this one can handle much more than small yards. I think this would work for medium to large yards as well (if that suits you).
2. Ryobi One ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion String Trimmer/Edger and Blower Combo Kit 2.0 Ah Battery and Charger Included
While I am not a huge fan of Ryobi’s ONE+ series, I have to give it to them – this battery can do just about anything. I generally prefer the tools in their 40V battery line because they are heavier duty than the 18V battery in the ONE+ series.
The main thing you are getting with this purchase is convenience. This is a relatively small Ryobi trimmer that can double as an edger (sorta). It is 10 inches, making it one of the smaller trimmers on here.
The blower will be great for things like a garage or patio, but honestly won’t get you very far in a bigger yard. The reason I ranked this set so highly is because Ryobi’s 18V battery in the ONE+ series can be used in a ton of other tools. That takes this product from a 2-tool kit, to about a 100-tool kit if you have the battery.
The price is pretty dang good as well, selling for a good deal on Amazon right now, including the battery. Go grab it on Amazon and start building out your tool collection today.
1. Greenworks 40V Cordless String Trimmer and Leaf Blower Combo Kit, 2.0Ah Battery and Charger Included
Greenworks is hands down one of my favorite lawn tool brands on the market – especially in the battery-powered world. They differentiate themselves on one thing: quality. The 40V combo kit here is no exception.
The trimmer is relatively basic, but also comes with a nice edging guard that helps you edge the yard as well. It is 12 inches, putting it right in the sweet spot for edgers here. It also has the automatic line advancement, meaning you won’t have to take any breaks to readjust the trimming line.
The blower is great as well. It has over 390 CFM of power at 110 mph speeds. This is perfect for small jobs around the yard as well as patio, deck, garage, or any other hard surface.
You will get 45 minutes of run time with these, which is more than enough for even medium sized yards. The 40V battery also works with 60+ other lawn tools from Greenworks including mowers, chainsaws, and anything else you could ever need if you move to a larger yard.
The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! After hours and hours of research, trying products and returning them, and messing up our yards – we started this site.

The benefits of a battery-powered trimmer
There are a few reasons to check out an electric weed eater when picking out your next lawn and garden tool kit. As compared to gas-powered weed eaters, electric weed eaters tend to be easier to use and maintain. At the end of a long winter season, you may have to refuel your gas powered weed eater and crank it a few times before you can get it to start. With electric weed eaters, you simply place the battery and you are ready to go.
Another benefit to electric trimmers is maintenance. You will not have to do anything to maintain an electric trimmer other than change out the line. No oil change, no filter change, and no messy gasoline spills. Just the normal string change and you are good to go.
Benefits of battery-powered blowers
Obviously you have two options when selecting a leaf blower: electric or gas. They are worlds apart in just about every aspect. Electric leaf blowers tend to be cheaper, less powerful, but easier to maintain. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I used to have a Ryobi leaf blower attachment that came on their 3-in-1 tool kit. I have now gone through two of the leaf blower heads in which they start making a high pitch scraping noise when I am using it.
There are exceptions in the electric leaf blower world. One of those is the Ryobi 40V Brushless whisper series blower. It is quiet, extremely powerful, and built to last. It is, however, one of the most expensive electric blowers you can buy.
Gas blowers are superior from a power and durability standpoint. They are super strong, last many seasons, and quickly get the job done. They do require maintenance, gas, and crank-starts, which are a little more difficult for most people. I always recommend an electric blower for smaller yards, whereas larger yards are better served with gas blowers.
The best all-around electric mower for small yards is the EGO 56V 21 inch mower. It is a great size, very powerful, and can cut a small lawn for months on a single charge.
Electric mowers are one of the hottest items to buy because they tend to be cheaper, easier to store, and quieter than gas mowers. First time home buyer? Recently downsized? Live in California? Sick of gas prices? Me too.
While there are a TON of electric mowers out there, some of them are crap and some of them are rip-offs. So, let’s cut through the noise as usual.
There are so many options of electric mowers out there that it was tough to narrow it down. Luckily, I am a huge nerd about this stuff.
1. EGO Power+ LM2101 21 inch 56 V electric mower
Number one! The Ego Power+21 inch 56V mower is the one of the best electric mowers on the market. EGO makes a ton of different lawn tools and the mower is top of the line. EGO basically only makes electric lawn tools, so you know they have mastered the mower.
One of the main benefits of this mower is the wide deck, meaning it has a decent cutting area with each pass you make. The larger the yard, the larger the cutting area.
21 inches is a perfect happy medium for small yards because it allows you to cover a good amount of ground while still being nimble.
2. Greenworks 80V 21 inch Cordless Push Lawn Mower
I like Greenworks’ mowers because they tend to be pretty thoughtfully made. Their Greenworks 21-inch mower with an 80v battery is definitely up there for me. As one of the more popular electric mowers on the market (almost 6,000 reviews).
This mower has dual blades, allowing for a better cut and for finer mulching. This is pretty equivalent to a gas mower, except the electric version where you can’t really tell a difference. Greenworks also has some super powerful tools like their blowers where this battery can be super helpful. The Greenworks 80V 21 inch mower has a great quality cut and is super quiet.
Highly recommended and a nice kick-off to our top three.
We like Greenworks because of their distinguished high-quality products.
3. Makita XML03CM1 Brushless 18” lawn mower
Makita makes really high quality power tools and so when they release an under-the-radar electric Makita mower with surprising power , you know it is going to be good. This sucker comes with 4 batteries, a metal deck, and a brushless motor. Basically everything you could like about an electric mower, the Makita has. Compared to most other mowers, this has a significantly longer run time.
For those with smaller yards, the 18 inch metal deck is just about ideal.
The fact that you won’t burn all your batteries means that you will have plenty of juice left for your other Makita tools.
The Makita XML03CM1 is just about perfect. If you get it without all the batteries, its actually pretty dang affordable on Amazon.
4. Ryobi 40V Brushless 20 inch electric lawn mower
The Ryobi 40V series lawn mower is part of a 40V battery series that makes a ton of good tools that you can use, including blowers and weed eaters. You can also use the battery in this mower for those. That is the type of interoperability I’m talking about!
This also has a brushless motor, is super simple to use, but sadly has a plastic deck – which is keeping out of the top 3. This is one of the most popular electric mowers in the world, so if you do go ahead with this purchase: you are in good company.
It is another medium sized mower that will get just about any small to mid sized yard done easily. Great purchase here, IMO if you can get it from an online retailer and ship it.
5. Black and Decker 40V Max Cordless Lawn mower
While I’m not a huge fan of black and decker, this is basically a mirror of the Ryobi mower. They are virtually identical in every aspect. Black and Decker also has a yuuuuuuuge collection of tools that take a 40v battery.
This mower is slightly more versatile in that it has a thing called EDGEMAX that allows you to mow super close to other surfaces, which is nice. Otherwise, this one is orange and black colored, which I tend to favor more than the neon green of Ryobi.
I recommend this one to anybody with Black and Decker tools already.
Can’t go wrong with this one.
6. Toro Recycler 22in SmartStow 60V max mower
There are a lot of things to like about this mower. First of all, I love Toro and have reviewed a ton of their mowers. They are always dependable and do an incredible job. This isn’t number one on this list for a couple of reasons.
It’s pretty big – maybe bigger than you need for a teeny tiny yard, but good for a small-medium yard. Another thing that is working against the battery version of the Toro recycler is the lack of battery interoperability. There just aren’t enough popular tools that the Toro battery works with. As a standalone, this is still a great option, however.
7. Dewalt 21.5 in 20V Max push mower
I like the Dewalt 21.5 in 20V mower because it is so simple. Dewalt has a jillion tools that you can use the battery with. If you look at this product, it is the most standard looking lawn mower in the world, other than the fact that it is bright yellow.
The Dewalt 21.5 in 20V mower has a brushless motor as well, making it longer lasting and quieter. It has a big metal deck as well, which means you won’t have rocks cutting through the deck and breaking it completely. It is a pricier electric mower (around $550), but I think you get what you pay for here.
This one has so much potential! It has all the bells and whistles that you would want in an electric mower, but has a plastic deck still. The Ryobi ONE series is pretty popular and has a good amount of tools in it, but not as many as the 40V series from Ryobi.
This is one of the nicer looking, mid-sized electric mowers on the market. It comes with two batteries that can be used in a bevy of other tools. It overall is a great mower, but gets dinged by me for not being a part of the 40V series and having a plastic deck. Still a good purchase if you are someone that has existing Ryobi ONE+ 18V batteries. You can find it for a decent price on Amazon if you get the tool-only version (meaning you use your same battery).
9. Greenworks PRO 17 inch 48V battery mower
Now that we are in the top 10, our game has stepped up quite a bit. This is another great Greenworks mower with a 17 inch deck (slightly larger than the previous Greenworks corded mower). It comes with two 24v batteries which appear to work with a couple of other Greenworks products, but not all of them.
This one will last you significantly longer than the other mowers and be able to take on much more work. The Greenworks PRO 17 inch 48V battery mower also offers a brushless motor, which makes it last much longer and is overall much quieter. It does still have a plastic deck, which I absolutely despise – so it is staying in the back half of this list.
Alright, if you are looking for a slight step up from the Sun Joe MJ401E (reviewed above), this is it. It is still powered by an extension cord but is a couple of inches bigger and has a few more customizable features. This one could definitely get you much further than the Sun Joe and actually has a mulching feature as well.
Greenworks is a little better than Sun Joe as a brand in my opinion. They make heavier-duty mowers and blowers and focus just on yard tools. Sun Joe is an outgrowth of Snow Joe, which was the original brand that made things like snow shovels.
This one is slightly more expensive than the Sun Joe, but still a steal (lol). Right now, it’s on sale at Amazon for a really good price.
11. Sun Joe MJ401E Mow Joe 14 inch electric mower
While this mower does get a couple dings from me, its price makes up for it. The first ding is that its plastic and looks like a turtle. Everything is plastic and likely won’t last a super long time. It is also tiny and requires an extension cord. 14 inches is not a big mower.
But here are a few things I do like. This is perfect from people who live in a townhome or condo and have a little bit of grass. It’s going to cut the grass fine, but it’s not going to handle tough terrain or tall weeds. If you’re looking for something super cheap and easy to use, this is basically a little yard vacuum.
This one is EXTREMELY affordable and can be shipped straight to your house from Amazon.
12. Worx Power Share 14 in 40V cordless mower
I’ve actually grown to love WORX products, including their mulcher and electric edger
One benefit to this mower is that the two 20V batteries can be used on most of their other products.
It’s plastic all over and only cuts ⅛ acre per charge. If you do like the Worx series however, you can use these batteries with any of their tools – which can save you a lot of money. The price tag is also around $300, making it a decent deal.
Using our ranking criteria, this one would actually rank decently. It is missing in a couple big areas, however. The Green Machine 62V Cordless Mower is a no-name brand (sorry), and has a 62V battery that is not usable with probably any equipment you own today.
A few positives: it has a metal deck and looks pretty nice. It has a decently large cutting deck as well, at 22 inches. This puts it in the higher end of our list if you have a small-to-medium sized yard. This mower seems to sell exclusively at Home Depot and exclusively online – and you can grab it here.
Why we review electric lawn mowers
The reason we started this website in the first place was because we had so much trouble trying to find reasonable, understandable, honest reviews for lawn equipment. And it’s not cheap! After hours and hours of research, trying products and returning them, and messing up our yards – we started this site.
As people who had to learn the hard way, we want you to know exactly what you are signing up for before you purchase a piece of equipment. That’s why we are committed to providing honest, easy-to-understand reviews that mean something. Always feel free to leave a comment or request a review using the form you see at the top of this page.
What to look for in an electric lawn mower
When looking to purchase an electric lawn mower, you need to make sure you understand what things matter. You will get hit with a lot of technical specifications and marketing tactics. Totally forget them and focus on the things that impact you. Below are my recommendations:
Brand quality. Quality is going to be super important here. Everyone is in the electric mower game these days and there are a ton of junky mowers out there. Avoid anything from a weird brand on Amazon that takes 9 years to ship. It is probably being 3D printed in a Laotian bathroom. Go for brands that have consistent quality and focus on the details, not just flashy colors.
Metal where it matters.
Ryobi has this, so does Dewalt, and so do some of the Greenworks products. This will save you garage clutter and plug space.
Self-propelled or not. I actually don’t like the self-propelled feature. It doesn’t help you that much and it drains battery – I would pass here. This is a marketing gimmick in my opinion.
Many people seeking to understand various lawn tools need a frame of reference for cost and power comparisons across types of lawn equipment. In this post, we will reference all types of residential lawn equipment to gather a reference resource for all savvy shoppers. Let’s get started!
When it comes to push mowers, there are really three main types of power sources:
Battery-powered push mowers: These mowers are powered by a battery and can be easily re-charged and stored. Battery-powered mowers are typically less expensive, easier to store and maintain, and better suited for small yards.
Gas-powered push mowers: These mowers are gasoline-powered and rely on refills, just like a car. Gas-powered push mowers tend to last much longer than electric mowers, but require yearly maintenance.
Corded electric push mowers: Corded push mowers tend to be very similar to battery-powered mowers, except require a long extension cord for power. Be careful not to run it over with the blade!
The average cost of push mowers in 2022
Push mowers range in cost depending on how they are powered, the size of their engine, and the width of their cutting deck. Push mowers are one of the most popular types of mowers because most folks have relatively small yards.
As the rise of townhomes have grown, the small little yards associated with them can be easily taken care of with a small electric mower. Sun Joe offers a ton of these, but also has competition with Greenworks, Ryobi, and a handful of others.
Battery powered mower cost 2022
The average cost of a battery-powered push mower in 2022 is about $300, but can range from $75 – $550 depending on size and features.

The average cost of a riding mower in 2022 (Lawn Tractor + Zero-Turn)
Riding mowers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The two you will recognize the most are lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers.
Lawn tractors vs. zero-turn mowers
Lawn tractors tend to have a steering wheel where the engine sits between your legs. Zero-turn mowers have levers that help steer the mower.
Lawn tractors are best for yards that are between ½ of an acre and 1.5 acres. Zero-turn mowers are great for those with 1.5 acres and above.
Lawn tractor costs in 2022
The average cost of a lawn tractor in 2022 is about $2,300, but can range between $2,000 and $4,200.
Most lawn tractors sit right around the $2,000 to $3,000 range, but some newer electric lawn tractors can cost over $4,000.
Lawn tractors vary in price depending on their engine horsepower and their cutting width. As you would expect, larger engines and larger cutting decks increase the price of the lawn tractor.
Some of the lawn tractors that we have reviewed are:
The average cost of a zero-turn mower in 2022 is about $4,500, but can range from $2,900 to $5,300. Zero-turn mowers range in price depending on the features and the size of the mower.
Commercial zero-turn mowers can run as high as $10,000 in 2022.
Some popular zero-turn mowers that we have reviewed include

The average cost of a lawn mowing service for an acre is $150-200 in 2022.
As a reminder, lawn service usually comes every week or every other week during peak season. These costs can add up extremely quickly, making do-it-yourself lawn mowing easily the most affordable option.
Leaf blowers: A 2022 guide to cost and choice
Leaf blowers come in many shapes and sizes, ranging from some that seem to have the power of a hair blower to others that can send a sailboat across the Atlantic. When it comes to leaf blowers, there are three main types: handheld electric, handheld gasoline, and backpack blowers.
Handheld electric blowers are slightly more expensive than gas blowers and are often the least powerful. There are a few exceptions, but these hold true.
Who should buy an electric blower?
Electric blowers are great for those looking for quick, small jobs around the yard. This would include blowing out the garage, blowing off the driveway or back deck, or collecting leaves for a smaller yard.
Electric blowers have a huge upside in that they are very easy to start and maintain, only requiring a charged battery to begin the work
Average cost of an electric leaf blower in 2022
The average cost of an electric leaf blower in 2022 is $175, but can range from $70 to $350 depending on the quality.
Some of our favorite electric leaf blowers include:
Handheld gasoline blowers provide a step up in power, but often require air filter changes and other minorly inconvenient maintenance. Gas blowers are great for people who have up to an acre or so of land and feel comfortable walking around and using the blower.
Likewise, gas blowers are great for folks who receive a significant amount of leaves, regardless of lawn size. Gas blowers can help move leaves off of your yard much more quickly and will leave less wet leaves stuck behind.
Average cost of a gas leaf blower in 2022
Gas blowers cost about $150, but range from $100 – $250 depending on size and power.
One of our favorite handheld gas blowers that we have reviewed is the Husqvarna 125B. This blower has an attachment on the end that can provide a super concentrated stream of air, with the ability to blow anything away.
Backpack blowers are the most powerful, expensive, and loudest blowers on the market. These are made popular by commercial landscapers, but anyone with an acre or above could majorly benefit from these.
Backpack blowers provide very high amounts of power and come with the added comfort of straps, advanced features, and an easy to use handle.
Average cost of a backpack blower in 2022
Backpack blowers will run you about $350 in 2022, but can range from $250 to $750 depending on the size and power.
Some of our favorite backpack blower reviews include:
Trimmers, lovingly known as weed eaters, are tools used to cut grass precisely. These are often used in harder to reach areas, to clear brush, or to fine tune the edges of a property.
Trimmers come in both gas and electric powered forms, with electric becoming more popular. Electric trimmers are very easy to use, but can be less powerful. A plus side to electric trimmers is that they often come with multiple interchangeable heads, allowing for edger, blower, and hedge trimmer attachments to all fit the same body.
Gas trimmers provide relentless, reliable power and are often used by those with bigger yards and of course, commercial landscapers.
Average cost of an electric trimmer in 2022
The average cost of an electric trimmer in 2022 is about $170, but can range from $25 to $650 Some of the more popular brands include Ryobi, Black + Decker, and Sun Joe.
Some of our electric trimmer reviews can be found here:
Pressure washers come in two major forms: gas and electric. Electric pressure washers tend to have less power and lower reliability. Gas pressure washers are more powerful and can get extremely pricey.
Who should buy an electric pressure washer?
Electric pressure washers are great for people who are doing lighter jobs. The perfect person to buy an electric pressure washer is someone looking to clean their windows, their car or boat, or garage door.
Electric pressure washers are less expensive and relatively easy to use. If you are looking to blast away all of the grime from your long driveway, electric pressure washers will not be the best choice for you.
Average cost of an electric pressure washer in 2022
The average cost of an electric pressure washer is about $190, but ranges from $60 to $300 depending on power and size.
Some of our favorite electric pressure washers include:
Gas pressure washers are great for all of the same reasons as an electric pressure washer, but can also remove paint, blast dirt and grime off of old surfaces, and more.
Gas pressure washers have serious power, but are also pretty loud. They will be more reliable, but also require a little bit of maintenance.
Average cost of a gas pressure washer in 2022
The average cost of a gas pressure washer in 2022 is about $400, but can range from $250 to $1,000 depending on power.
Some of our favorite gas pressure washers include:
Dethatchers are lawn tools that pull up thatch, or dead grass, from the bottom of your yard. Thatch forms over time and can suffocate your soil, leaving poor conditions for your healthy grass to grow.
Many people dethatch their lawns before they aerate and seed in the fall. Dethatchers have grown in popularity. They are often electric, corded devices that replace the traditional dethatching rakes.
Dethatchers typically come corded, meaning you need a long extension cord to operate them in your yard. They are not a danger to your cord like a normal mower, but actually have small metal tines. The tines stick out (kind of like the metal springs in a chip bag clip), and kick up the thatch from the soil.
Average cost of a dethatcher in 2022
The average dethatcher will cost about $150, but ranges from $130 to $200 depending on the width of the machine.
